Has the old heaven hill BIB (with the gold label and black font) been discontinued? I can't find any info on it. Was this just the pre-fire bottling, or was it made after '96?

It was made well after '96 and I have picked up a few recently.  I seem to recall that it was discontinued in the past year or two, but a few still show up from time to time.  The six year old BIB (pictured above) is still widely available here for anywhere from $9 to $10 and change...:D

I used to see it until just a couple years ago.  The label said distilled DSP 1 bottled DSP 31, so definitely post-fire.  They also used to have Dowling's Deluxe and TW Samuel's.  I haven't seen those for some time.  For four year old bond, you can still get JW Dant or JTS Brown. :)

Yes, the Heaven Hill BIB commonly known as "Gold Label" was discontinued a couple of years ago.   Gold Label BIB was one of the only HH BIB's that we had available in NJ (in addition to Dant and McKenna), but it pretty much disappeared quickly after being discontinued.

I recently came across a couple of handles of Gold Label BIB for about $25 each, and picked them up just to have around.  Gold Label is NAS (thought to be the minimum of 4 years old), and gets a mix of positive and lukewarm reviews.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm gonna do a tasting soon with all of Heaven Hill's BIB whiskies and I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything that's currently being released.

OK, all :D As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I've ever had a BIB I didn't like!

Which ones do you have so far?  HH BIBs are pretty much my wheelhouse.

I have Rittenhouse rye, Mellow Corn, Evan Williams, Heaven Hill 6 year, JTS Brown, Henry McKenna and I think one other but I'm drawing a blank. I'm waiting to get Old Fitzgerald BIB in the next week or so. I think it'll be a fun tasting for my friends and myself. Now to decide whether or not to do it blind...

By all means, do it blind. It is difficult to set aside preconceived notions. Tasting blind lets you taste what you are really tasting rather than what you expect to be tasting.

Seven different tastes in one sitting, Ian?    That's a great deal of Bourbon (& rye & 'dog) for most palates.   I'd leave out a few and plan for two events, instead.   (The Mellow Corn will easily be identified by color alone, and really doesn't compare well with any of the others you mention; ...maybe it should be in a separate category?)

I'd do the Ritt, JTS Brown, and Old Fitz BIB as a group; then do HH-6, Henry McK, and EW (Black Label, I assume) together as another group, at another time.    If you must do 'em all the same day, I'd do the groups as mentioned, separated by at least a couple hours, and maybe even a meal.   Just my suggestion.....

Maybe the one other is JW Dant?  I still see Ritt DSP 354 sometimes.  You could even do a comparison between that and the newer label DSP 1 Ritt.  Last time I went to my source for Old Fitz, they were out.  I hope to find some more.

Isn't this much more fun than chasing the severely limited bottles and forking over big money? ;)

It's the evan williams white label. It'll probably just be a half oz pour of each with plenty of club soda as a palate cleanser. I also forgot J W Dant as well, so eight different whiskies. We did all ten four roses mashbills a few weeks ago and no one complained lol. Most of the people doing the tasting are bar owners/managers so they don't mind drinking a bunch. I'm leaning towards doing it blind though to keep it interesting.

I did a BIB tasting with I think six BIBs once.  It was with my family (mostly my dad), so we poured 1-1.5oz of each into a glass, and we drank from the same glasses.  I don't know if you're that comfortable with these folks, but it worked well for us.

It's funny you mentioned the Rittenhouse because I still see the old one around and was just thinking about trying it side by side with the new label. I'll save that for a different night though. You're absolutely right, chasing the limited bottles is tiring work. There's so many great BIB options that are readily available.
