This is territory for serious bourbon nerds (most of us here) and anyone who is a fan of Jim and Four Roses (he talks about his time there). I came across this on Reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/bourbon/comments/4ihxvc/an_interview_with_jim_rutledge_from_j_w_rutledge/

The source of the interview is Mark Millonzi from the Entry Proof blog. http://www.entry-proof.com/blog-native/2016/5/5/an-interview-with-jim-rutledge-from-j-w-rutledge-distillery (This is the same interview as it originated on the blog).

It's long, but I highly recommend it. Lot's of good trivia in here.

Good read though I found it a little sad. Rutledge wants to make bourbon his way and I applaud him for it, but this is an idea in its infancy. It will be 2022 before they sell a bottle, if ever. Good luck to him (and to us). Hopefully Brent Elliot takes the baton and delivers at 4R. He did a meet and greet here a month ago. Nice guy and loving life.

Thanks for posting this. Really interesting. He's a class act for sure. I hope this works out for him, because it sounds like it could be really great.

I thought it was interesting that the Four Roses 10 recipes used to come from the fact that they had 2 mash bills, 1 yeast strain and 5 distilleries.

I was surprised by that one also.

Thanks for posting this. I had a great time talking with Jim about his vision for the new distillery. Looks like I need to come over here more often.

Thanks for sharing this - I read the interview over lunch, and I think the whole part about rye and seasonality was fascinating!  Tons of good information in there!

We can use all the well-produced bourbon and rye we can get, period - be that 8yrs from now, or even more.

Was getting ready to crowd fund them when they pulled the situation.

At the same time, I've got Squire's lessons dancing about in my head in the form of 'they won't fund me, let them fund themselves, and I'll buy the bourbon'

They've pulled the crowd funding anyway, which makes it easy to adopt the Squire school of thought!
