Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star now aged less than 4 years!

OK, I was always under the impression that AAA10* was aged between 5-6 years. Maybe I was just misinformed.....

I bought a handle of Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star today and when I got it home, I saw this statement on the neck wrap (printed sideways)..."Aged at least 36 months".  Now, from what I understand, Kentucky Straight Bourbon MUST be aged at least two years, but if it's less than 4 years old, an age statement must be on the bottle.  So, can I now assume that it's somewhere between 3 and just under 4 years old?

I have three 750ml bottles that I purchased late last year - the statement is nowhere to be found on them. Is this a recent change?

How on earth is "Aged at least 36 months" an age statement?  Did Buffalo Trace think we wouldn't notice the subtle change in the neck wrap info?

That little bit of fine print is common on bottom-shelf bottles, but disappointing to see on AA10*. I prefer 10" to the defunct 10yr but doubt that preference will hold over to the newer, younger stuff. I know where a couple of 10* bottles are languishing on a shelf nearby. I may have to pick them up now.

Just found that one of my three 750ml has it in small print on the neck label.  Damn.

I'm not going to lose any sleep over this development...A bottom-shelfer simply solidified its status.

I'm also thinking that if I hear of a run on what has been NAS 10* because of this, I may seriously consider quitting the game ...;)

I suggest that's exactly what they're thinking.

Well, "36" is more than "3" or "Three" and "at least 36 months" sounds different than "at least 3 years".  Maybe they think we'd think "36"whatever is longer than "3"whatever.

Gotta admit Harry, 36 is a big number.  Hey, it's even bigger than the 10 that was already on the label.

...makes me wonder, then, what age the standard "Ancient Age" is!

I had some AAA this weekend.  Pretty thin and weak, but not unpleasant.  I find some bottom shelf items to have rough edges that limit them to cocktails IMO.  No rough edges on the AAA.  I will check the neck for the dating, but if it tastes good, who cares.

More than three, apparently.

No, Ancient Ancient Age 10 star that I was referring to is more than three years (but less than 4).  Standard Ancient Age is even lower on the shelf - was wondering how long IT is aged!?

If you pretend for a moment that there are only 9 months in a year, it becomes 4 years old.

You're welcome.

I noticed that Ten High now has "natural flavors" on the label.

Probably a good thing.  They need to cover up the taste of that stuff!

Presumably better than unnatural flavors! Besides they already have that covered with Fireball.
