scarter24
Has anyone tried the new batch (132.5) yet? It just showed up at my local store. I have batch #4 and #5 open now and really enjoy both (slight nod to batch #5). Curious to see how the new batch is.
chuckhammer
Haven't found it yet in my area (upstate, SC) but I love me some Stagg, Jr. Batch #5 so I will definitely be on the hunt. Not easy to find around here, especially at a reasonable price. Couple places are asking $90-100. Had to look around quite a bit to get it for $56.99 but I did. Barrel proof and 7-12 years old is my sweet spot. Traditional mash bill, high rye, or wheated. All are great. Don't see why they make it any other way! Harry in WashDC
Virginia online lottery for Stagg Jr. #6 calls for entries from 9AM ET Thursday 19 May to 9AM ET Friday 20 May via the VA ABC website. Notification of winners will be by email on 27 May. $53 plus sales tax, and you have to pick it up at the ABC Store you designate when entering. There is a separate lottery for licensees (i.e., bars and restaurants).

I was able to find batches 4 and 5 without any trouble, but I doubt it will be easy with #6.
RWBadley
I found batch six on a shelf in Oregon. Sweet deal at 49.99 with no tax. As for the juice- it's OK. I need to revisit it again. First sample I thought it a little single dimensional heavy wood, but that will easily change with time. I'll look into it this evening with a comparison to batch 3, and 4- my two favs so far, with 4 being top dog.
BB Slim
I got a bottle in Michigan during a recent visit for $60. I thought it was excellent. Thick and rich with flavors of brown sugar, rye spice and oak. Didn't find it hot at all. Flavors held up nice with addition of water.

So it's not nearly as "limited" as many of the other releases where the state gets 150 bottles (Seasoned Wood) or even less (FRLESmB). That should leave a little over 400 available to individuals. I'm curious how strong participation is in this. I'm very confident that I would have been able to get a bottle under the old system. We shall see in the new one. Apparently, and as you posted earlier, some of these not-really-limited-but-not-unlimited releases get backed up in the Virginia system. I may (operative word is MAY) try a WashDC place that usually has at least one in a cabinet close to MSRP. Or, I may buy multiple OGDs instead. Can't decide yet and probably won't until I see it. jackthedog
I'm in VA too. Under the old system, when released, it would hang out on shelves long enough to easily track down a bottle. And sometimes it would linger. It will be interesting to see if this becomes the new norm for releases that are presented as limited. Well Virginia has created a backlog recently as they were figuring out what they wanted to do with the "limited" releases. I'm pretty sure they've had Stagg Jr., Barterhouse, and Forged Oak sitting in Richmond for over a month. I believe they also currently have Knob Creek 2001 (heard 300 bottles) and ECBP Batch 11 sitting there too (and I wouldn't be surprised if they have or are getting soon EH Taylor Barrel Proof and the new Abraham Bowman release). These are all likely to be some form of online order/lottery (and the way they phrased the Stagg Jr. email I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to do the two Orphan Barrels in the same lottery). jaxn slim
I like the new batch. It's currently tied with #4 as my favorites of the Stagg Jr batches. Additional testing will be necessary to break the tie.

jaxn slim
Have you tasted batch 5? I have. It's good, but it's hotter and spicier to my tastes than 3, 4, and 6. I prefer the other 3.

jaxn slim
Thats interesting, I thought batch 5 was less hot. Time to do that one again. I was surprised that I'd find the 129.7 hotter than the ones above 132. I agree, probably time for me to compare again, too. :-)
fenderbender4
Damn, now I have to go buy a batch #6 to compare. Still working on the 129.7 batch. I just hope the general population doesn't catch on to the improvement of Stagg Jr. since its first releases.
MandyLea
Okay, novice question! I just tried Stagg Jr. for my first time while I was visiting Woodinville, WA. They said it was 132.5 proof, but I didn't think to ask what batch it was from. So if I want to know, do I just ask the bartender to see the bottle? Does it say on every bottle? Thanks for humoring me

Thanks for humoring me The "batch number" is not printed anywhere on the label. You can only tell the batch number by it's alcohol content: Batch 1 - 134.4% Batch 2 - 128.7% Batch 3 - 132.1% Batch 4 - 132.2% Batch 5 - 129.7% Batch 6 - 132.5% Edited May 26, 2016 by starhopper
