Sluggo
I recently started a merchandising job which takes me to multiple grocery stores each day. This past week I was in a Walmart back room to sign out for the day and noticed 2 bottles of Blanton's on the receivers desk. I picked one up and it had a T on the cap which happens to be the last cap I needed to spell out Blanton's. I grabbed the bottle and put it in the backseat and covered it to keep prying eyes off of it. I had another stop to make and during that time the sun came out and the outside temperature shot up to over 80. A couple of hours later I noticed the unmistakable smell of bourbon. When I got home and pulled the Blanton's bottle out of my car the cap had popped out due to the heat I guess. Luckily the majority of the bourbon stayed in the bottle which was in a plastic shopping bag. I went ahead and poured a glass and all was good but I caution those who might leave a bottle in their car while running errands now that the temps are going up. T Comp
Good thing it wasn't a Stagg, Booker's or other high proofer Sluggo or you might have a hole in your car roof . High altitude can also really make a cork pop, similar to opening a Champagne. Though I've never experienced it just blowing off on its own. Was the bottle also in the sun? I'd think it gets pretty warm on delivery trucks where this could happen.
Richnimrod
I've had this happen twice before; both were pretty warm days, and both were on extended sunny trips, though no bottles were in direct sun. Both times I was driving the car the entire time and smelled the evidence fairly quickly, and took appropriate action. The heat build-up in the trunk can be fairly substantial, even when the car is air conditioned.
B.B. Babington
I saw an entire case of canned coke explode in the back of a hatchback in Florida.
squire
The only time this has happened to me was with a bottle in the trunk. Taught me to stop if you smell Bourbon.
Darwin
I had a good bottle of wine push the cork partially out, allowing some of the juice to escape. Now I keep an ice chest in the truck to help with such purchases. If I know I am going shopping I add a couple reusable blue ice blocks into the chest. It's near impossible to to get ice cream home without melting in the summer.
jsrudd
Is this only an issue for wax seals or has anyone experienced this with other cork enclosures?

Enoch
I had a box of beer in cans on the front seat I had picked up at the local brewer. Parked car in shade and went to work. Didn't occur to me the sun moves. When I came out all but one can had blown lid open at seam. There was beer everywhere with associated smell. Driving home I wondered what cop would think if I got pulled.
PaulO
I used an empty 750ml bottle from Bernhiem Wheat as a decanter. I filled it up to within about half an inch of the bottom of the cork. I could not get that cork to go all the way down until I poured out a little. Meanwhile the re-filled BT bottle did not do this.
ken_mays
I once had a crack in a beer growler and half of it leaked out in my car floorboard before I noticed it. Had to pull up the carpet and it was a huge mess. Just another reason I hate growlers. Mostly I don't drink them fast enough and it goes flat. Trying to get my wife to buy cans or bottles instead.
