dSculptor
So I know this has been covered time and time again, but thought I would throw it out there again. One of my local liquor stores that I really don't visit frequently because of their prices, has all of his bourbon bottles on a shelf in front of a west window -- they all get direct sunlight. I sometimes want to say something to him about it, but is there actual scientific proof that sunlight damages the contents of a sealed bottle? What does it actually do to it? I was in there again this weekend just for a quickie, I had just seen the JB apple commercial with that good looking woman and thought we would try it on such a hot day, mixed it with some sprite, it wasn't too bad, my wife who does not drink whisky at all even had a glass. He also had handles of KC for $65.99 -- yikes! Just bought me one from Woodman's for $47.99 yesterday.
b1gcountry
I doubt he would care even if you said something. I'm not really sure why you would even care. A local grocery store near a college campus has a bunch of wine and beer facing the south facing glass facade. I just don't shop there. It's a campus store anyway. Breaking bourbon had a good article about whiskey left in storage in sunlight and over radiators iirc. The article was pretty definitive about the sunlight. Look it up. He does have a nice selection of some good stuff for such a small town and if it really does hurt the bourbon then me being me has the obligation to let him know as long as I have the facts straight. But if I don't have the facts straight then I'm not going to say anything about it.Maybe he just doesn' t know any better and would be grateful (doubtful). Sometimes enlightment can be a good thing. I wasted a lot of time trying to 'educate' the world when I was younger. I finally learned the only one I could educate was myself. I also learned a lot of the folks I tried to educate were pretty smart themselves.
dSculptor
Yeah , thanks for the link, I had checked that out already... It makes perfect sense to me, sunlight plays havoc on everything. I suppose in this instance it wouldn't make a big difference providing he has a decent flow, and the product isn't sitting in the sunlight for weeks at a time. I guess that's what I was wondering the most, how quick does the sunlight start to affect it. Either way the guy should just put it in the center isle instead, but then again some good proof would go a long way.
