I found a Booker's 2013-6 (one of the roundtable batches) for $59.99 and 8 EC12 with the red "12" on the front at a Walmart. Bought 2 of the EC12's and the Booker's. Strange to see stuff that has been gone from the shelves for a long time sitting there.

Sometimes it amazes me what I find at my local WalMart! Right now they still have a shelf full of EC12 (age stated rear label) for $25.77 a fifth... Last fall they put their stock of Blanton's on clearance for $40 a fifth... And last summer I found 2 fifths of Lincoln Henderson labeled Woodford on the shelf behind all the Chris Morris bottles. They have such large warehousing and distribution networks that sometimes they'll receive old stock that "needs to go"!

The owner of my favorite shop called this morning to let me know he had gotten a couple bottles of Weller Antique and was holding one for me if I wanted it... Well of course I did! Dropped by on my lunch break, paid my $29, thanked him for keeping me in mind, and left with my prize!

I just find it strange that you can buy bourbon at Walmart in some states. Totally foreign idea to me here in Texas.

No kidding.  Also when people buy bourbon on a Sunday.  My mind can't grasp that either.

State laws here in Florida prohibit alcohol sales where food is sold - entry to the liquor store has to be through its own door.  So our Walmarts have a small liquor store adjacent to the main store (same building).  So even stranger here in Florida.....but that's usually the case for us.

 

i acquired the EC and Bernheim above at a WMT, i think they are thinning their bourbon offerings as they also have AE and KCSB priced at clearance.

On a whim pulled into a corner liquor store just to see what they might have, and ended up walking out with a bottle of Rock Hill Farms (just haven't seen this stuff in Illinois).  Paid a bit more than I'm sure I would other places, but that comes with the territory.  I was just excited to see a bunch of bottles of the stuff sitting on the shelf.  Certainly not something you see at Binny's.  They also had a bunch of ETL sitting around.

The last store select Blanton's I had was good, not great.  It's not my favorite bottle of bourbon anyway.  If one is in your area and strikes your interest, go for it.  Same if you are a lifelong Blanton's devotee and can get one for a reasonable price + shipping.  But I wouldn't seek another one out, personally.  Probably would not buy it without trying it first.

Since Blanton's is already a Single Barrel bottling and can vary, I guess it depends on if the palates that pick a particular barrel align with yours. They at least theoretically picked the best barrel out of a number of possibilities, but you never know unless you trust the pickers.
