Had to replenish my always available Buffalo Trace and lo, there on the shelf just to the side was a 4RSB OBSK. This is a new month so the bourbon budget is reset so ...

I feel bad but then again I do not, I had a field day or end of summer purchasing splurge with some "had to have purchases". While in the UK I picked up a bottle of Blanton's Gold, BTSBP #179, BTAC WLW 2015, BT Experiment Wheat 105 Entry proof, HH Wheat Select, 2015 FRLESB, Bourbon De Luxe 1970 bottling...I got back to the states and then found a 2016 FRLESB "Elliott's Select" as well JDSBBP, this bottle was due to all the positive words from many of you on this forum. As I said a big splurge but I was able to find bottles I would never see in NYC. My bank account is crying but I am a happy camper.

I picked up a bottle (11yr) a month ago and love it...great sweet long finish. I also picked up a 10yr that was from a barrel select by Astor Wines (NYC). I have not tried that yet but look forward to comparing the two one day soon.

I was never able to buy a bottle but came very close at a Black Friday event (last bottle went to the person in front of me).  My local whiskey bar received a case, however, so I've been sampling it occasionally since it was released.  It is, in my opinion, very very good.  I start drinking it at full proof and then add some water before my palate surrenders.  I really wish Heaven Hill would let some Bernheim Wheat sit for another couple years and turn it into a regular release.

I took my bottle of PHC Wheat on a camping trip this summer. We opened it while cooking dinner on the last night and it had been gently warmed by the sun in our food box that day. Damn if it wasn't delicious slightly warm! Of course whiskey always tastes better when camping, but this was like nothing I've had. Was with several of my best friends and their wives, and we finished the bottle before bedtime. Neat, in camp cups. It was a good night. I'd buy another bottle in a heartbeat.

If at some point in the future you should have both bottles open at the same time, I would be very interested in your thoughts about about how they compare head to head.  I was only able to find bottles of the 63.4% - which I found did not live up to my lofty expectations for a Parker's Heritage release.  It seems the 63.7% was widely considered to be the superior batch.  Look forward to your notes.

Can't speak for others, but mine was a 63.7% batch - and I was also underwhelmed.  I don't think it's necessarily bad - but it reinforced why I prefer high-rye bourbons over (most) wheaters.  And was a significant drop in my enjoyment level compared to prior PHC releases.  In fact, I tried mingling it with other high-proof whiskies (like ECBP and THH, curious to see if there could be some amazing balance).  Did 1:1 ratios, and remained unimpressed.

Thanks to a friend, I managed a bottle of the EWSB that Whisky Magazine selected for their 'Icons of Whisky' Distiller of the year.

Due to my lack of impulse control I picked up a 2016 OFBB and the 1920 "Prohibition Style" OF. Both at retail which seemed to high to begin with but I wasn't likely to find them for less. But I am a sucker for comparisons and this will let me do a SBS of the three OF Whiskey Row bottles as well as a OFBB vertical going back to 2012.

Made the 2 hour drive this morning up to St. Augustine to pick up 2 bottles of their bourbon which was released today. The weather was cool for these parts and though the line was long, we were all happy to be there. A pretty cool experience if only slightly historic in these parts.

Some day I think it'd be interesting to so SBS with many of these regional distilleries like Texas, Florida, PacNW, etc.  To me, most of the Texas bourbons taste the same with a ton of corn and very little depth  Not sure if it's the heat or the water, so I'd be curious how it compares to something from a similar climate like Florida, or some place entirely different like Washington state.

EWSB 06. I figure it can't hurt to grab these when they're still around, as the 07/08s see the age drop quite a bit more.

South Carolina surprising me with odd stuff.  I've only sampled two, but seen several.  Seems like there's a new still popping up everywhere these days.

I randomly walked into a Liquor store in Astoria, Queens...I usually do because you never know...hence, today was one of those days, I found a 2016 Booker's Limited Edition Rye at manufacturer retail price. This was a double whammy because no secondary market increase in price and it was in Astoria, Queens NY!!!
