Walmart clearance prices are amazing!  You gotta be there at the right time though.  My one and only Bulleit 10yr bottle came from Walmart.  It is definitely overpriced at regular msrp, but, for $25 it was well worth it.

Color can be deceptive in the bottle when comparing between two differently shaped bottles. The width of the bottle, label style and color and even the bottle itself can influence the appearance. Best way to check is to pour each one in a matching glass/glencairn. Then put it in front of a nice white background and you can get a better sense of the color difference between them. Which is not to say that a Quady port finished HWRR can't be pretty deep in color.

And then the added bonus is that you get to drink them both! I believe that is called a win, win.

No need to do that at this time as I had both these before and the HW Quady Port is darker

Smooth Ambler Contradiction today.

How is that? I passed up on some the other day, read a couple rough reviews.

It it must be real dark, because ECBP is about as dark as I've ever seen! Did you previously do a SBS?

Not had it before. Saw it on offer (well, a good price for here) so picked it up. I'm a sucker for Smooth Ambler though.

Go on...

Contradiction is just a mint-bomb on my palate, that's all.  Spearmint, to be exact.  YMMV though.

Sure did. Will do it again when I have them both open again to show picture.

Cheers

I was surprised to find a bunch of ECBP (136 proof, latest batch) on the shelf at one of my locals.  Employee saw me grab two bottles and said, "Ah, going straight to the good stuff."  He said they received 24 bottles in total.  I've only seen ECBP in my area once before and it was sold via lottery (I did not win the chance to buy any).  The price was great too, $45.  I paid $55 for the ones I found in Michigan last year and I was happy with that price.

I wonder if the dropped age statement on the regular Elijah Craig had anything to do with the seemingly more favorable allocation of ECBP.  A kind of sadness resulted from my consideration that the death of EC12 may have resulted in my current good fortune.

I seem to remember something in the original press release when they took the age statement off of EC that there would be more ECBP going forward.  Hopefully that does come to fruition.  I actually found one on the shelf here recently, whereas before they were never actually on a shelf; only behind the counter hidden from view and only available to those in the know, and in tiny quantities at that.

Walking thru Costco yesterday, always taking a look down the spirits aisle, I found FRSB (NN, 78-3N) on sale for $36, $9 off the original price of $45.

I picked up a couple, what a score!

My Costco is in Henderson, Nevada.

High west Rendezvous Rye "Quady Port Cask Finish" is darker than ECBP 136 proof version.

Didn't know it was possible for anything to be darker than ECBP. Impressive color.

In general, those Quady Port Cask Finished HW's are impressive all around.  I recently had a couple of tries of a 1789b PS bottle that was superb.  I think the whiskey grabs a lot of that dark color from the port finishing.  I'm guessing they're very fresh when filled.

How is that HW port finish? Is it as port finish forward as the YKY? I would like something similar but more subtle.
