jimbo
I have moved to Salt Lake City, Utah from Washington state for the winter. I took about ten bottles with me because I didn't know what to expect in Utah. Utah has state operated liquor stores as does Washington state. I just found a web site for Utah liquor stores. Here are the single barrel, and small batch bourbons available in Utah.BASIL HAYDEN'S 8YR BOURBON 36.95BLANTON BOURBON 41.95BOOKERS BOURBON 52.95EVAN WILLIAMS SGL BBL'93 26.95GEORGE DICKEL SP BARREL RES 17.00HIRSCH BOURBON RESERVE 16YR 66.50JACK DANIELS SINGLE BARREL 39.95KNOB CREEK BOURBON 27.95VAN WINKLE 12YR SPECIAL RES 35.95WOODFORD RESERVE BOURBON 29.95Certainly not a huge list but a good range. So, I guess I won't suffer too much here in Utah. I will try to post the list of "regular" bourbons next time.Regards, jimbo
avery
I'm uneducated on the George Dickel that you list. I bought a bottle of Dickel No. 12 and while my initial impressions were that it was drinkable, I've found that I can't stand it anymore. I almost can't finish an ounce or so now. Paradox
George Dickel Special Barrel Reserve was from the Heritage Collection in the 90's. I am pretty sure that while 3 offerings from that collection are still available today (Weller Centennial, Very Special Old Fitzgerald and Old Charter Proprietor's Reserve) 2 are now and they are IW Harper 15yo and George Dickel Special Barrel Reserve 10YO. I have seen it in a few stores still lying around from time to time, and if Jimbo can get it its probably old stock from some time ago. $17-18 is fairly cheap for it, most places I have seen it at it was around $30 give or take a bit. From what I have heard about it no one is missing out on much if they do not try it... ( )
jimbo
I haven't actually seen a bottle of the George Dickel SP Barrel Reserve on the shelf. That is the way it is listed on the Utah Liquor Board web site. I will take a look next time I am in a store to see if it is really the Special Barrel Reserve. I notice that the status is shown as "Discontinued" so it may not be available. But, after trying the standard George Dickel #12, I won't be trying any of the Special Barrel Reserve anyway.Regards, jimbo
