VAGentleman
Pernod bought a majority stake in them http://fortune.com/2016/12/08/pernod-ricard-smooth-ambler-deal/
Richnimrod
Yeah, saw that on the W/A Blog. This may be a very good thing for those of us who like Old Scout, Smooth Ambler, Yearling, etc. Getting an infusion of cash and probably some National/International marketing expertise can't hurt 'em. Of course it won't mean any sort of cost control or reduction, I don't imagine; but I never thought of any of their retail offerings as exceptionally over-priced. ...And, goodness knows some of the OS offerings have been fabulous. So, maybe with a cash infusion, their access to more excellent barrels, not to mention a possible increase in their own production, will mean great things for "us". Hope so. I wish 'em well. IncredulousNosco
Yeah, acording to this article: https://thewhiskeywash.com/american-whiskey/pernod-ricard-takes-in-craft-whiskey-outfit-smooth-ambler/ ...they already have HUGE plans for the new cash infusion! They plan "to introduce [their] premium craft spirits to many more consumers." How novel!
BourbonGuy
This is one of the better sourced bourbons, IMHO. I wonder when he releases his own if it will taste similar to now. How will all this affect future releases? The funny thing is in one liqueur store, it sells out quickly. In another, its one sale. The owner said it doesn't sell. A larger store I frequent sells a ton while a smaller store down the road had the rye on clearance for $25 since they had it on shelves for almost 3 years. mbroo5880i
Part of me is sad to see a smaller distiller become part of the larger establishment. However, while I do not know John and his crew personally, I have communicated via e-mail and he is a member of the forum; therefore, I am extremely happy for him and his employees. I am certain that this transaction will prove to be fruitful for him which is well deserved. I am also glad to see he will have a continuing leadership role. I look for great things to come out of the Smooth Ambler distillery.
JoeTerp
Good for them. This should help the Old Scout programs get back up and running as well.
