What bourbon are you enjoying (Winter 2016/17)?

@0895 I picked these up at the Barton distillery last year - about $8 and just about the perfect glass. I have about six which is down from eight as my wife has a tendency to break my glasses while washing...  I have some I've used so much I've worn all the lettering off of them :)

Does that mean I may be drinking too much?   Nah...

I'm taking a couple of vacation days from work, so I'm celebrating the start of a four day weekend. I somehow managed to have an all around decent week at work, so I decided to pour something "special" again. At least something I had a hunch would be special. I'm having a couple of pours of Van Winkle 12 1/2 107 proof. Yep, you heard me right. Van Winkle 12 1/2 107 proof. I vatted some ORVVW 10 and Pappy 15. FWIW, my hunch was correct. This is danged good. (I would say damn, but I don't cuss. ) This is really hitting on all cylinders for me. The sum of the whole is better than the individual parts. With reference to George Peppard/Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith from The A Team, "I love it when a vat comes together." :D

Cheers! Joe

Enjoying a nice pour of this BRL barrel strength.  It's essentially an 8yr OESV distilled by MGP, 5 barrel small batch.  Good amount of spice neat...add a tiny bit of water and the fruit really comes out.  For the IN guys that didn't reserve this it's well worth the 49.99.

I grabbed mine earlier in the week and opened it tonight for a cold Indiana night pour.  Your description is spot on.  It has a little spice heat neat and a nice hint of floral and fruit with just a touch of water.  I took my pour down to around 105.  A nice barrel proof for $49.99.  To be honest, OESV is one of my least favorite FR recipes but I wanted to try it in a small batch instead of single barrel.  I am not saying there aren't stellar OESV single barrels, I just haven't found one.  I prefer this blend to the OESV SBs that I have tried, which is admittedly few since those I tried didn't interest me.

A little pour of Blanton's to start the evening. Not the best bottle of Blanton's I've had but good nonetheless.

That's a Whiskey and Woodsmoke candle it's sitting on top of made by a friend of a friend in ATL who started a candle business a couple of years ago.

That's also my favorite glass at least until the SB.com glassware becomes available. :)

Is that a 375 ml or a really big glass?   Like 0895, I think the glass is pretty cool.

Well, JB BIB (which after drinking neat and in cocktails and with Coke and with Lemonade and with Sprite and eaten with apple sauce just because, I think is a BARGAIN) --

Tonight was a cocktail based on a Clyde's summer cocktail (Clyde's being a local restaurant chain started by a guy with a HUGE liver):

Beam on the Beach

1 part bourbon

1/2 part Cointreau

1 part Lemonade (NOT lemon juice)

1 part Sprite

ice cubes

Double Old Fashioned glass is best although you could make it in a Collins glass like Clyde's does.

Of course, I augmented the bourbon as the drink shrank.

It's a 375 which I buy regular Blanton's in almost exclusively due to price and availability plus I get twice the corks that way ;)

Having some HM tonight as well. May have 1 more small pour of something before bed celbrating 3 road wins in a row for the Blues. Not sure what to pick.

Re the glass...I like it! I thought the same thing about the size. I didn't know Blanton's came in a 375.

Sounds like a good drink Harry...50/50 apple sauce to bourbon?   Also, I agree on the JB BIB, they really should release it in a 1.75 to make it an even better value.

Lets see…the Mother-in-Law arrived about 2:30pm today for the weekend stay. So I decided to start with some '14 ORVW 10yr which I think is some fantastic juice BTW. From there I moved to some 1792 High Rye for dinner and have had 2 pours of HH6yrBIB since then. All in all, I have felt pretty good on day 1 of the invasion.

I shouldn't talk bad about the MIL. She helps me get more stock for the bunker from KY so the wife doesn't know and we have actually had an improving relationship over the years which is great. The only down side is she turns the wife into a much bigger pain than she is on a normal basis! :( Cheers everyone!!!

Barton Gift Shop in Bardstown unless they set up a booth like they did at KBF then you could get them there - only place I have found this style of glass

I started the evening with a pour of Baker's 7 yo, I'm definitely not a big fan of Beam products. Now, sipping some 15'WLW, I'm gonna my time with this one, I could smell it for hours, go Buffalo Trace !

Cheers!

Will.

Last night followed a Heaven Hill theme. Started with Henry Mckenna BIB, followed by EW BIB, and finished up with Ritt BIB.

Started and finished with wheated whiskey with some spacers in between. ORVW '16, followed by OFSiB, then an OBSK and finished up with WSR. It was a pretty wide variance of flavors. We opened the OF for the occasion and in a collaborative effort found a unique, but very strong, flavor of sour apple bubble gum. It was puzzling for a few minutes while we tried to identify it, but once we did the needle started to move towards the enjoyable side of the line. More tasting is necessary but I may be buying some more of those.

Started with some Blantons while fixing dinner, and moved to some 1792 Port/FP mingle (best of both worlds IMHO).

That was quite nice when you shared it at my place. I think all your mingles were firing on all cylinders.

Starting off with some Old Ezra 7 and will probably move on to some Wild Turkey. After I beat this cold I plan on picking up a new bottle, thinking either OF 1920 or  1792 full proof. Heavily leaning toward OF because OF is a favorite.
