What bourbon are you enjoying (Winter 2016/17)?

Another good evening of bourbon drinking.

Started with ECNAS in the old bottle style. I'm happy to say that the profile in this is still good. I still pick up notes from older barrels. The skeptic will say that they are shifting the profile slowly so as to not alarm to loyal customers. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that the current NAS is still excellent. I will continue to drink this while saving my stash of 12yr age stated for a rainy day.

I followed with some EW12yr. Interestingly, I preferred the ECNAS to it this night.

Finishing with some '14 GTS. The King. Still amazing and without peer.

A nice dram of PVW 20 before the drop of the Wild vs Wings game today. Sadly only one dram left of this juice I may never get a chance to find again

Taking a few days off with my wife here in East TN at the Carnegie Hotel which is great on its own but also has a wonderful bar well stocked with great bourbons and restaurant with outstanding food and service. Since we arrived on a Sunday I made sure to pack a little something to tide us (me) over. That being a store select BT from Peavine TN's own Good Times Liquors.

Nice suite that included a bar - not stocked but still it has a freakin bar!

At a restaurant today I enjoyed for the first time 2016 birthday bourbon and rock hill farms. Sure wish I could find a bottle of rock hill farms, I have a feeling it might not even be distributed to Texas as I've never seen a bottle EVER. The 2016 OFBB was much better than the 2015 from the previous year.

Booker's. My palate is unrefined, but I actually liked the Jim Beam Double Oaked that I drank on Saturday better than I like this Booker's.

RHF is available in Texas.  Just hard to come by.

Still helping my son with Legos. I am trying to figure out if I like EW Single Barrel more than Elijah Craig... so time for a taste of EC.

Tennessee Dave, I wish I had your hookup on those habana cohibas. These Dominicans just aren't the same. Cheers!!

Can't find any WLW Antique in stores, but I did try it at the North End Cafe in Louisville earlier today.  North End is on the Urban Bourbon Trail.  Did I enjoy it? Uhhhh . . . YES!

Take note of the barrel number and get more if you still can. I've never had a bad McKenna SiB but they can vary.

Good advice Steve, I went back the next morning and loaded up.   This one was from 2003.  Never had anything before '04 before.

OWA 7yr 107 pf. - but I had to bring it down to Knoxville from my bunker since all the liquor store are CLOSED!!!   (many thanks to Knoxdocs for giving me the "heads up").   Really hitting the sweet spot after a dinner of the Chianti Filet at Naples restaurant.  Time for bed . . . . . ;)

How much did they charge for a pour of WLW antique? I'd love to try it sometime.

Last night I had a couple glasses of Bourye from the 2015 reintroduction.  I think the bottle says batch 3 or something like that.  Anyway, it's from 2015.

This is a tasty drinker.  It is rounded, easygoing and very inoffensive.  Lots of balanced bourbon and rye flavors, and they all are right at the surface.  That said, I'm not sure what my $80 + tax got me.  I have really been struggling with this bottle because it just hasn't revealed the depth of flavor I was hoping for.  I think this would be great at $30-$40, but above that it's just not bringing a smile to my face like most of the higher price whiskies I indulge in do when I smell and taste them.  Well the ones I find to be "worth it" anyway.  Bourbons like HHSS #2, Stagg Jr, the BTAC, Pikesville Rye, VWFRR, HWMWND, and even that bottle of Barterhouse I opened recently.  I don't mind spending a relatively large amount of money on a bottle of whiskey, but it needs to put a stupid grin (assuming there is any other type) on my face when I reach for a glass of it.

Sipping on a freshly opened RY10yr SiB. It's a different barrel from the first one I had. Very different profile on this one. Granted it's the first pour from a fresh bottle so we'll see what happens. That first bottle I had was like liquid Werther's candy. This one is much more oak driven so far. Has that cinnamon kick on the back of the palate like OWA. Further judgement withheld until I'm a few pours in.

Followed the RY10yr SiB with some OWA and it tasted off. I was only getting oak. It's a bad palate night. Now I know I can write off the first impressions of the new bottle of RY10yr.

Because it's a bad palate night, I'm doing the only thing I can do - OGD114. It's bad palate night proof as always and it's just fine tonight as expected.
