What bourbon are you enjoying (Winter 2016/17)?

I think this would be great at $30-$40, but above that it's just not bringing a smile to my face like most of the higher price whiskies I indulge in do when I smell and taste them.  Well the ones I find to be "worth it" anyway.  Bourbons like HHSS #2, Stagg Jr, the BTAC, Pikesville Rye, VWFRR, HWMWND, and even that bottle of Barterhouse I opened recently.  I don't mind spending a relatively large amount of money on a bottle of whiskey, but it needs to put a stupid grin (assuming there is any other type) on my face when I reach for a glass of it.

I'm racking my brain and coming up empty. What does the HWMWND abbreviation mean?

Couple of pours from a bottle of AAA 10 yr. that was already opened, but hadn't been touched in awhile.  What a shame this delicious bourbon is no more.  Wish I had bought a couple of cases to put back when it started to appear this brand was doomed.  The poor man's Blanton's!!!

Brought a store pick of BT with me on the weekend getaway so I opened that last night and am still in it today. Heading to the bar soon and going to do a few pours there. I saw GTS, WLW, several Parkers already so the deciding may take a while

High West Double Rye, since I whiffed on the Dram abbreviation earlier.

Dinner at Wellington here at The Carnegie Hotel along with several pours from the Whiskey list. (Didn't show the full list in the photo just the higher end - sorry). My notes as dinner progressed.

fc27260f229c80d4d5d91b3c7e721e42.jpg

Whiskeys

Seasoned Wood $30 - oak and that's about it definitely not a bottle purchase for me

OF 1920 - $10 - not much better than I recall from The Sampler very one sided all wood not much finish. Not a bottle purchase for me.

4R Elliott's Select $25 - 105.8 proof - balanced, interesting, flavorful, but takes work to discern the flavors everything seems to meld together very well, fully coats the tongue and the finish lingers nicely. Already have one each of the released proofs but haven't opened yet. Will open soon

Finale

GTS 2016 - $50 - simply amazing. Doesn't show it's proof since the flavors are so intense they override the alcohol. What a finish to the evening.

Overall - great service from the bar in timing and size of pour here at The Carnegie Hotel in Johnson City TN, most of the food was very good, our overall service left something to be desired but the bourbon was great.

OGD114 for me tonight, but I LOVE Double Rye.  Probably my favorite rye and I've tasted a few of those.

What a night.  I had a bar pour of the Stagg 2016 a couple of months ago and remember thinking how far below it's proof it drank for me.

Great night!  We've talked about this on the board before, but it's worth repeating on what a gem of a hotel and absolutely great bar that is the Carnegie.  One of my favorite hotels anywhere.

OT, I made the up-and-back trip to Chicago yesterday for a meeting with one of our vendors, so it was JD in the Sky Club and Woodford on the Delta flight home.   Both were very satisfying cappers to a looooong day.

Today I'm enjoying some Blanton's and some bourbon balls from Woodford Reserve; got both for Valentine's Day. She's a keeper!

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, a Four Roses seems fitting.

It's a High West Rye Night, MWND act 4 and it's sibling Rendezvous Rye in the opposite order. As to not play favorites I stayed on the Port thing with 1792 Port Finish.

I'm staying on my Evan Williams Single Barrel kick. Tonight I will see how it pairs with the Ferrero Rocher and Ferrero Rondnoir that my wife bought me for Valentine's Day.
