Watching the Virginia Miami game.  No one can watch this style of basketball without drinking.

No kidding. 43 to 43 at the end of regulation. They are sending basketball back to the era before shot clocks.

I am having my first pour of Knob Creek to try to cope with this lack of offense.

Having some Charter 101 tonight while watching the Blues hockey game (wife and daughter are AT the game).

I'm not usually an ice guy but single small cube tamed the young harshness.  There really wasn't a lot to tame.  With some ice this is a REALLY nice pour for $20.

1rst pour was AB Gingerbread Cocoa finish.

2nd pour was EWSB2004.

3rd pour is ETL.

Not sure who tonight's winner is, but the least favorite of the night (so far) has been the EWSB.

Not sure I am going to get to pour #4......

Finished the night with 4th pour, a small pour of W12.  Quite the evening for me.

You know when you have those whiskey moments that just damn weird? Well I'm down at Disney with the family and I brought a bottle of Henry McKenna 10 with me. No special pick or anything. Just a bottle from a local store near my house. Well I've been sipping this one since Saturday and it's been a fine serviceable bourbon in the vein of EC 12. (I drank EC12 for years and while I dislike the NAS route I don't romanticize the bourbon that was) So for an odd reason last night's pour was pretty damn amazing. What was different you ask? Well....I think I didn't get all the damn Colgate rinsed out of my mouth from brushing my teeth beforehand. The HMcK10 was rich, sweet, and luscious. It just oozed caramel. Today, no toothpaste residue and we are back to the way it was before. Now, I'm not going anywhere o throw a glob of Colgate in the next glass or anything. Just damn odd.

Sounds like we need to make toothpaste infused oak sticks to sell folks to shove in underperforming bottles ;)

On topic - small pour of OWA while packing for a trip (and pondering if the OWA goes with me or not).

I tend to have a better tasting experience if I use mouthwash a half hour or so before I drink anything.

Opened up an '06 EWSB tonight. Barrel 249, bottled 10-25-06, bottled 5-22-15. I'm liking this one, has quite a caramel/vanilla nose and a nice sweetness on the palate. May have to make a trip and pick up a few more bottles from this barrel.

BIB night for me tonight. Small pours of J.T.S. Brown, and J.W. Dant so far. I might move on to EW and/or HH 6 before all is said and done though. ^_^

Cheers! Joe

I am starting the night off with some delicious Russell's Reserve, while cheering on the U.K. Wildcats.

There is a chemical in many toothpastes that temporarily 'washes' something from your taste buddies, altering what and how you perceive flavors.     It might be "something Lauryl something".    Jeez that's lame, eh?

I wish the hell I could remember what the chemical is, and what it washes away from your mouth; but at my age, I'm glad I remember that there is something that does something.

Anyway, it may explain the effect you experienced, Rich.

Wait!    I just remembered I have a new tube of Crest, and looked at the box.    The ingredient I was trying to remember is possibly Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.

Maybe one of the chemically inclined members here can explain the effect properly.

ANYBODY?   Jump in!

I'm not chemically inclined, but I believe the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate temporarily blocks sweet receptors on the tongue. That's why orange juice taste so sour if drunk right after brushing. I could be grossly oversimplifying it, but I think that's the gist.

Sipping a MMCS 14-01 and it is a sweet little flavor bomb.  Bought 3X.375ml when they first came out.  One left in the bunker.  It is the only MMCS I have tasted, and I DO wish the MM46CS would somehow magically appear in NJ! Have subsequent batches been consistent with the first release?

I don't know how the toothpaste altered your taste, but I love when some bourbons have a slightly minty taste to me.

One of my favorite bourbons is Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond. It always has a Doublemint gum taste to me. It is the only bourbon where I detect this flavor and I love it.

Anyway, I may have to experiment and brush my teeth sometime before having a pour of one of my lesser favorite bourbons (Eagle Rare, Knob Creek, etc.).

Also, Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond always has a little bit of minty taste to me.

Oh well, like Led Zeppelin, I'm rambling on.

I've never had a bad pour of Henry McKenna Bottled in Bond and it sounds like the boss is delivering for you down in Disney.

Tell Davey Jones I say hello just before you make your final descent on the Pirates of the Carribean ride.

Three fingers of Old Fitz BIB, and UK basketball.

Paddy, I have no idea how many fingers I have poured here.

Here is a glass of unknown number of fingers of Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond, for the second half of the U.K. game, hoping that the Cats will stop sleepwalking through this game. Come on Hawkins and Willis, kick it in to overdrive.

The way they played in the first half you might just have to start drinking straight from the bottle. :D

My wife has given me grief for how quickly I have drained this handle of Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond, but this lethargic showing by the Cats might result in my posting the handle on the Empty Bottle Support Group thread.

^^^Looks like about three fingers to me!

P. S. I love the iconic label on this brand.  I hope that, maybe, this is one thing that can be left alone during this boom era.
