MelissaM
A friend is heading back home to KS for the holidays. Just curious if there are any interesting offerings out that way that I should know about. I'm not looking for secret haunts, just curious as to what one may find on the shelf out that way. Swoboda
One oddball to look for is Virgin Bourbon 101 Proof, 7 Year Old. Kansas is one of a few states that gets this stuff . . . it's mostly for export markets. It's believed to be from Heaven Hill Distilleries and is similar to Evan Williams BIB and Old Ezra 101 . . . and it's cheap. The bottle and label is worth the under $15 price tag. Virgin 101 is a good suggestion. But it's not believed to be Heaven Hill, it is a Heaven Hill brand.

I was hoping for a solid oddball or something.
silverc
Virgin Bourbon is also available in NC and occasionally in Virginia. It's quite good (I had some earlier this evening) and absolutely worth picking up for the $13-15 pricetag if usually goes for. I like it a lot more than many bourbons I have had that were 2 or 3 times the price.
Postal Grunt
If your friend is familiar with Lawrence, KS, the Cork and Cleaver at 2000 23rd ST has a nice selection of bourbons and rye. Sometimes, it has a few of the allocated Buffalo Trace bottles. They also carry some of the pricier, read breath taking costly, scotches available in the area. BTW, when in Lawrence, stop at the Free State Brewery for the onion rings.
