Haha indeed! The only Bookers I saw today were marked around $70 here in E. TN. I told myself that if I could find it for $55 or so, I'd grab it also.

I will be curios to see what you think of the OGD 114. I picked up two bottles before trying it as well.  It's so popular here that after I opened it and tried it I have been keeping my opinion to myself.

Even if you don't like it I find the high rye makes for a great Manhattan (the high proof also helps).

I will be curios to see what you think of the OGD 114. I picked up two bottles before trying it as well.  It's so popular here that after I opened it and tried it I have been keeping my opinion to myself. 

I didn't really like OGD114 on my first try either, but after the bottle had been opened for a bit to breath, along with letting my glass sit for a bit, I began to like it more and more. It's also great as a 50/50 blend with WSR.

Haha indeed! The only Bookers I saw today were marked around $70 here in E. TN. I told myself that if I could find it for $55 or so, I'd grab it also.

I'd be surprised if you can't find it somewhere in the $55 -$60 range in E. TN.

Well I had one glass with a cube of ice. The best way for me to describe it was ordinary. I didn't get any overwhelming flavors. It tasted like I was drinking whiskey. So I mean, I'm glad I got some to try, but I don't know that I would get it again. Maybe that solidifies me as a newb. Give me any number of other bourbons instead.

What Joe just said.  My first taste of OGD 114 was a turn-off.  At Squire's suggestion, I put a little water in it (very little) and let it sit a few minutes.  It was fruity but hot.  Over a couple of nights, I played with how much water, what I ate before drinking, etc.  By the time I was half-way through the bottle, I'd learned I liked it best on cold days after non-spicy food and with enough water to bring the proof down to about 105.  I also learned that just one 2 oz. pour is sufficient; a second is not as satisfying.  Over time, I learned that I like it best October to April.  OTOH, I have a bourbon-drinking friend who has never found it special or worth playing with and who uses it exclusively in cocktails.  That's fine - more for me.B)  He likes OF Signature, which I don't, so he drinks from my OF Sig (purchased on a dusty hunt without tasting it first) when at my house, and I drink his OGD 114.

OGD is a very unique animal in bourbondom and is not for everyone. Between its unique yeast strain and and high rye mashbill and doesn't taste like much else out there.

Like Harry and many others, I didn't think much of it on my first taste. It took multiple sittings and experiments with water until I kind of liked it. After some time, I REALLY liked it. 

More then any other bourbon in my cabinet, this one just took some time to reconcile with. I have to say it was well worth the wait.

Some good insight here. I'm definitely going to work with it to see if I can't get the same outcome--finding a happy medium that I like. I'm sure as the bottle opens up and as I acquire the taste for it, I'll grow to like it a lot. That's been the case for just about every bourbon that I didn't initially love.

I've seen guys post on here that they've bought case quantities at pricing amounting to $10 - $12 per bottle. At that price it is an OUTSTANDING bourbon, at sub $20 it is an excellent bourbon, and in the $20's it is pretty darn good stuff. Throw in the recommendation of a few of the more respected guys on here who really like the flavor profile regardless of price and you have yourself a "popular" bourbon. In Michigan it is $32.99 State Minimum price so while I like it enough to keep a couple around (especially with news of its demise) the three or four I have bunkered will likely last me quite a while. It is good bourbon, but when you start getting into the $30 price range the selection opens up considerably which makes it less of a "Must have" pour. Enjoy it for what it is, and if nothing else, you'll soon own a "Dusty" that is coveted by many a whiskey buff!

I am really digging the OF 1920.  I get a lot of butterscotch and caramel out of it.  Another bottle or two is definitely on my shopping list.

Yeah it's $27.99 here in TN. So I decided it was worth a shot. There are plenty of other bourbons I can easily enjoy in the event that I never come around to the OGD114 but still cool to have a bottle that may be discontinued soon.

While I enjoy OGD BIB, I occasionally find OGD 114 to be one-dimensional.  I rarely drink it at 114 proof so I attribute this, at least in part, to the addition of water to proof it down to 100 to 105 proof

 

Blending is a great way to add complexity and spice.  I have found a 50:50 blend of OGD 114:Ritt BIB to work well since it proofs out at 107 proof which is tolerable neat.  I have even blended it 2:1 Ritt:OGD and enjoyed it more than just OGD 114 alone.

 

I often find that blending one-dimensional bourbons with a higher proof rye can help tremendously.

I'm mostly in the same place as JT. I really like it at $30 and below but it's up to $33-35 around here as it disappears. I got a couple bottles bunkered at $25 each and that may do it for me. I truly like it and found with my first bottle that it took several weeks of airtime before it was drinkable and then was really tasty to me, but it took patience. Overcoming the challenge was fun.  On the flip side, I could not find a way to enjoy the BIB. I may try it again sometime but I'm not in a hurry.

Just the opposite for me. It was love at first pour! It was the closest thing to a barrel-proof whiskey I'd had at that point and I thought it was wonderful. It has been on my shelf ever since and is one of the first things I recommend to new explorers.
