Why would we assume that they are competition for each other?  I don't think the majority of people buying premium whiskey are looking to get drunk.

I agree with you. Others don't however.

When you look at all of the SW labels on offer when they were operating only a few were actually stellar. I would guess the ratio isn't that far off of what we are seeing from the best majors today. 

The list of variables that go into production and aging is so long and there so many things aren't likely to be duplicated any time soon that duplication of any of the best SW bottles is pretty much out of the question. 

If the question is what distillery's products will likely be the most coveted in ten or twenty years then I agree with those who see BT as the most likely candidate.
