If you could pick one bottle or container for all distilleries to switch to...What would it be, why? Or maybe you think that's blasphemy...

These fit fine on my bar but back when I had to use a kitchen hutch they were too tall.  I think tallish (but not too tall) and skinny are best; the smaller the base, the more that can fit on a given space.  Style + Utility = Good Bottle.

ER10, VWs, something along those lines are good.  ETLs come to mind also.  FRSiB also is up there in my mind.

The Stagg Jr / RR shape is okish but I'd put at second tier.

But from pure aesthetics, I do love the Blantons bottle, it makes a nice decanter for vats.  Though I've never bought one, the IW Harper bottle is also a nice looking decanter.

1792s look nice, simple, stylish, but are absolute space killers.  And I'm not a fan of the wax like MM and having that spew everywhere when you crack it, then trying to pick up all the little nuggets wherever they fell.

OGD BIB bottles are the perfect size and shape for me.  They just need to bring back the screw top, orange cap!  ;)

Don't care much about the shape but I wish all bottles were screwcaps.

That's funny because I wish they were all corks (real corks)

How about 1.75's?    More fer yer monkey, eh?   Kidding!       Although, if I could have that quantity for the same price as a 750, that would be super cool; but probably not good economics for the distilleries, I suppose.

Being serious... I think the standard 4-R SB bottles are a great compromise between height and sideways space conservation.    PLUS, they are pretty good looking besides, and have a wide enough mouth and short enough neck to pour nicely, though one has to be a bit careful when they're near-full, because of that square shoulder.   My $.02 worth.

screw caps don't squeal and alert the wife in the other room that "you're having another glass !?!?"

That being said, If I could only pick one for the rest of my life, it'd be a BTAC bottle.

I like the look and feel of a cork, they are however inferior from a practicality/long term storage stand point especially the big ones like Elijah Craig corks or the crappy composite corks these fail all the time.

I think the shape of bottle HH uses for the 6 year BIB and some others has a lot going for it.  With a square shaped base, and long neck with groves; easy to store and handle.

As to bottle size; I like 1L the best (when available).  Come to think of it, I wish more high end stuff was available in 50ml minis.  Most minis I see are only bottom shelf brands.

At one point I wanted to remove the writing off a Sazerac Rye bottle to re-use for other things.  I could not.

I kinda like the wt rare breed bottles. Or the etl bottles.

I agree with Stever. The RB bottles are classic looking. And the ETL are nice to pour from because of the finger grips.

I like the 4RSiB bottles a lot as well. They have the best cork caps of anything out there.

I've always preferred the BTAC bottles. From a design nerd standpoint, they have a classic simplicity of minimalism that works due to favorable proportions. The bottle will always look good no matter the era. But, as said above, they can be too tall for some cabinets. In that case, the Van Winkle and Booker's bottles work best. They have the smallest footprint combined with just the right height for maximum capacity. Depending on my mood, I could be swayed towards the square bottle shape of HH6yr BIB as noted above. Very classic.

You lose 50 ml with the Pappy bottle. I'll take the full 750 ml with the Bordeaux style BTAC bottle.

For a standard I would lean towards the EH Taylor line (and bonus credit as the tube looks nice as well).  Also love some the the BT #2 bottles: Blanton's, Rock Hill Farms, and Elmer T Lee.

I was trying to figure that out, too.  I read his post three times hoping to find the joke I was missing.  I still don't get it.

It was definitely my mistake. The bottles clearly state 750ml now that I've checked them. All this time, I've been under the impression that Pappy is an exception to the standard 750ml, and now I'm actually not sure how/where that idea even came from. Totally my error, and an embarrassing one at that.

@dcbt

It wasn't a joke, just me making a mistake.

Initially I thought BTAC or EHT, but those I have to put on a different shelf to others since they're too tall, so I will go with everything in an Elmer T Lee bottle, but the older style bottlings with the extra ridge around the neck (like the current Cadenheads bottles).

Maybe the first one you saw was an export bottle? They certainly made Van Winkles in 700ml size for the Euro market. Just trying to help a brother out here.

That was my thought too. Easy mistake.

I always liked the WR Masters Collection bottles, just a nice design, followed by W12/OWA bottles almost the same as the WR but shorter. Also one of the best looking bottles out there as stated earlier is the Saz rye- just love the lines.
