Not the most space efficient, but the Blantons bottle is by far the most striking bottle in appearance. Light bounces off all the facets and gives the amber liquid an almost mystical appearance.

I really like all of the different, and sometimes unique bottles that bourbon comes in. If everything came in the same type of bottle, it'd be kinda boring to me.   However, storage and cabinet space is a whole 'nother issue. As others have said, I too, like the ETL bottles mainly because they'll fit anywhere on or in my cabinet. They also take up less room when you're travelog. In other words, bringing stuff to the Sampler or KBF.;)

Cheers! Joe

I don't know about adopting it for widespread use, but one of my recent favorites is the HWMWND bottle. The hand blown look with the bubbles and imperfections makes for a nice, classic presentation. Plus it's tall and skinny like everyone seems to like.:D

Nobody for the fancy brown paper vest and copper belt???

Man I hate the BH bottle, maybe just because I don't like what is inside, but I just find it so over the top.

Mason/Ball jar anyone ?????

Now this is an example of true utilitarian thinking.   Short, for those shelves without a lot of head space, wide mouth for those 'fast get away pours', a very good seal on the top, and a replaceable closure, if one happened to misplace the original.

Joe, that is very good thinking my friend!

And you can get a case of these lovely decanters for like $4.00!

Maybe the first one you saw was an export bottle? They certainly made Van Winkles in 700ml size for the Euro market. Just trying to help a brother out here.

I'm sure it was somehow based on some factual point of reference, but I just don't remember. I certainly like to think I'm not going crazy. I don't mind laughing at myself though. If this is the worst mistake I make all week, I'll be doing okay.

It's all good. As long as we're enjoying a fine bourbon, we're doing it right.

I'm not a fan of bourbon in wine bottles, despite enjoying ER, Rittenhouse, etc.  I wish they'd ditch those, especially WLW, Booker, GTS, etc.  UNLESS they taper to a narrow bottom like the old AA bottles, BT, or even Makers 46.  That taper speaks "whiskey" instead of "merlot".  I don't like the flask shape, like KC and Woodford, despite their enjoyable contents.  I don't like the perfume shaped bottles either like Angels Envy or Blantons, even though it is a delicious bourbon.  Blanton gets recovery points for the stylized stopper.   The square shapes are ok too, like EW, EB, and VB.  And I like a short fat bottle, like OFS, or ETL.   Favorite are the pot still shapes, like VOB, OWA, and WPSR.  OFBB too.

The old Jim Beam 1.75L.

High capacity, manageable height, square profile for optimal loading on shelves or in boxes, and has a handle that doesn't extend past its footprint.

I also second the ETL nomination, although wish it came in a 1.75L size for maximum shelf space/bourbon volume ratio.

I like both cork and screw caps. Actually I prefer cork for open bottles that I'm drinking from, but appreciate screw caps for their longer storage qualities. They come out about even.

For fancy bottles, while I do find the BTAC very attractive, I do wish they were shorter, along with SAOS. My preferred fancy bottle style is Parker's Heritage - the oval footprint makes them nearly as easy as square footprints to store, they look very attractive, and they pour well.

Four Roses Single Barrels are also pretty nicely compact and fetching at the same time.

The Orphan Barrels are nicely squared but their glass is too thick - it's a waste.

WR has a good 1.75L, but it's too wide and not deep enough, making it prone to knocking over.

I would pick the antique collection bottles. Love their look and man I could pack em on my shelves

That would be nice, if ya can get them at MSRP, and easily available, great looking bottles.

I kind of like the variety although I tend to like the square-base (like EW, JD, HH 6yr BIB, even 4R SiB) or rectangle-base (WR, Hillrock Estates, even Jeff).  We use a two-shelf Chinese chest with weird internal dimensions and strange shelf heights for our "visible" liquor cabinet, and those straight sides allow for lots of packing.  Plus, they don't roll around in my car trunk.  Lining them up behind dining room chairs up against the wall where they are out of sight is easier, too.  Less chance of knocking one off shelves in the basement bunker.  Really tall ones go on top shelves in the basement, so I don't care how tall they are - they fit between joists.  And, any 750 with a neck long enough for me to hold on to is good.  For handles, the JW Dant plastic jug cannot be beat.

Haven't really thought about this, though.B)

I'm a big fan of the older round/long-necked bottles that paper-label Weller and ORVW used to use. I find the combination of bottle shape and label space allowed for a lot of artistic freedom with the design, especially with the extended neck labels. Even RY LOOKED good in that bottle, though the whiskey was crap! I, too, love the elegant look of BTAC bottles but they're just too damned tall. The bulk of my bunker is in boxes and I have to pay special attention when acquiring boxes for those. Yeah, I know, first-world problems! Still, I need some sort of compromise whether storing or displaying.

I'm with Brian - the ORVW squat bottles are some of my favorites to keep and reuse.  But if I had to pick one, the need to fit maximum bottles in minimum space brings me to the HH 6yr BIB bottle.

I couldn't find anything if the bottles all looked the same! I do kind of wish they all had the heavy duty screw cap used on the Japanese whiskey bottles (I think Westland uses them too). Otherwise I prefer the artificial cork because of the more reliable seal long term.

Oh my God, yes. When it was available, it was only $11. Greatest value of all time.  And definitely my favorite.

How about this bottle?  Tall shape means efficient footprint, but not too tall so it clears all cabinet shelves.  Large middle surface area provides plenty of room for creative label designs.  And fluorescent yellow makes it easy to find in the back of dark liquor cabinets.

:-)

most utilitarian bottle shape of all time. Its not the strongest (that would be a round shape) but packs the most liquid in least amount of case space for shipping (and shelf storage)!

BUT, efficiency aside, I wouldn't want every bottle in my cabinet to look the same ... variety is the spice of life!
