Best way is to buy all the bourbon you need (Because we NEED it! That is what Whiskirexia Nervosa is after all.).

Then you create a budget with what is left to pay for everything else!

B)

Now, you all know what it takes to be Bourbonian of the Year...:D

Here's an idea.  Have a first pour from one of your nicer bottles.  Then switch over to the budget pour handles.

What he said ^^^^^^^

I have an old WTRB tube. I cut a slit in the top and use it as kind of a bourbon piggy bank for my spare change. You might be surprised at just how much money you can accumulate in a relatively short period of time doing this.  Just a thought.

Cheers! Joe

You cannot argue with this logic right here.

I have about 70 bottles bunkered. Some pretty good stuff. A little bottom shelf. I like all different kinds! I drink a little more in the summer. I'm really a cigar guy. The house I'm moving into soon will have a lounge in the garage. So I expect myndrinking to increase!  Trying to build as big of stock as I can and then replace and maintain as I finish bottles. I only have 7-8 open!  I love EC and Evan Williams products. I'm a huge BT distillery fan too!

I rotate a lot, and go back to OFS every other bottle to re-calibrate.  As recommended by CardsandBourbon, I'd find my favorite budget anchor bourbon (EWBIB, VOB90, JWD, etc), and rotate in an upper shelf every 3rd or so bottle, as remaining budget exists.  Related, I just finished my first bottle of EWBIB that was excellent at its price point.  Unfortunately, HH products are scarce here.

Hmmm, 70 in the bunker is an OK start; but you'll definitely need a waaaaaaaay bigger Bourbon budget to really git er dun.      What TANSTAAFL recommended up thread is the way to begin making up for the deficiency.

Don't wait!    Time is wastin'!!!

It's really interesting the difference in availability around the country. We always have WSR and OWA available around the OKC area! Buffalo trace is often times out our 1 bottle limit. Some places charging 39 dollars a liter. Liter is all I see on shelves ever. Eagle rare is indeed rare. Larceny just became available here within last 2 years. Never ever seen a Henry McKenna 10 BIB. See baby saz around every once in a while. I grabbed 4 bottles last month. Stagg jr pretty common !

I totally agree with you in terms of the diversity in the drink preference.  Around here OWA is running 30+ if you can find it, no W12 anywhere and Eagle rare i can find all day at 25+.  Larceny is plentiful in central texas.  I just wish Texas allowed shipping to residence from out of state.

So I've been buying bourbon for like 3 years. Moving into a new house soon. Trying to limit myself to 20 bucks every 2 weeks for bourbon!  Opinions on best values? I'm expanding a lot of expert advice!  Trying to decide if I should just save it up every few weeks but a 40 dollar bottle. Or go budget every week with EW BIB, ECSB, OWA and such

Clay, I started the same way you did, but decided it was more advantageous to do 40 dollars every 3 week.  At 40 i have a bigger and better selection to choose from.  Use the 40 as a ceiling and spend less if you find a better bottle at a lower price, save the rest for fall releases.
