BFerguson
Raise a glass gents, it looks like the streak has been broken http://m.startribune.com/mn-senate-passes-bill-ending-ban-on-sunday-liquor-store-sales/414885874/ Last stop, governors desk, and he has openly stated he will sign it. Just think, soon, we'll be able to post in the "what did you buy today" on a Sunday. It's the little things in life that bring us joy B Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Old Dusty
Lovely, good for you Lakers. Meanwhile us Hoosiers will continue to party like it's 1933 and stock up on Saturday!
PaulO
I would like to see that pass here too. I've been down in Bloomington or way up on the North side on Sundays. Too bad no chance to do a little hunting.
Nm0369
Several states have recreational marijuana, but we can't buy cold beer in grocery stores or anything on Sunday.
Queball
Maybe you guys should move to Oregon -- legal recreational marijuana, and liquor stores open on Sundays. A quirk of Oregon's is that liquor can be purchased only at OLCC stores, but beer and wine are available at grocery stores, 7 days a week. BottledInBond
I remember being annoyed while driving to Wisconsin on a few Sunday's when I was younger. However as I have aged that sort of thing has been few and far between. As a person with far too much alcohol already on hand, I can survive Sunday's. Darwin
I remember riding my bicycle to the gas station on Sunday mornings to get a bottle of brown vodka. I wasn't old enough to drive then. South Louisiana was a fun place to grow up.
smokinjoe
Georgia legalized Sunday sales a few years ago, much to my delight. It was good for me, and good to the consumer in general. In talking to most local small retailers, however, it has done nothing for them and simply impels them to be open to protect share. Most barely cover costs to stay open. The mega-grocery chains, gas stations, convenience stores love it. They're open anyway doing what they do, and selling more booze (beer only in GA for these type of retail stores) is an easy, thoughtless, and welcome sell. I still enjoy and utilize the convenience of the available Sunday sales option, but always make it a point to drive the extra couple of miles to give my business to my local liquor store whenever possible (which is the overwhelming majority). Even, if for just a six pack of Bud.

Even, if for just a six pack of Bud. Same story as you might imagine here. It's the pharmacies, mega stores and convenience stores that want Sunday sales. The dedicated liquor retailers have fought it (oddly in bed with the teetotalers and religious folks who want to curtail all alcohol). Their studies show no increase in total sales volume (just spreads out Sat and Mon purchases). While their overhead goes up. I make fun of the prohibition era rationale for the current law, but have enough friends on the retail side that I don't mind remembering to stock up on saturday. Plus they have carved out craft distillers and breweries to allow direct to consumer Sunday sales.

PaulO
Here's some Indiana trivia (besides no Sunday sales). A liquor store can not sell cold soft drinks. Many have vending machines out in front. A grocery store can sell cold wine or now cold hard cider type beverages, but can not sell cold beer.
kwshannon
Yeah!! Enjoy going to Minneapolis or La Crosse on a long weekend, then getting frustrated by all of the closed stores on Sunday.
