So the SAOS Single Barrel is the same mash bill as the SAOS7 from what I've read, correct?

All the bottles I've seen have been either right around the 50%mark, or higher, around the 60%mark with little in between.

Has anyone tried both? Do you have any opinions on them? I have one at 50.9%. I'm trying to decide if I want to pick out a 60% bottle (or 3)...

I never thought about the Mashbill on the SB but the 10 was lower rye than the 7, though both were MGP IIRC. I have a few bottles of the SB CS one being under 100 proof. I actually bought a few online from a store in St Louis that had great prices. Checked a few and they seem to be the higher 36% rye like the 7 yr.

Hah, that's actually my local store! They are good people to talk to most of the time.

I think the single barrels can be either recipe but are usually the high rye. You can contact SA to inquire about specific barrels.

My understanding is that the SAOS CS are usually the higher rye mashbill (same as the 7 year), but that store selections of SAOS CS could be either.

If you like strong caramel flavors & more proof, this is the one to get.  I went to their 4 different SAOS SB  bottle tasting recently and this one was amazing.

60.1 %,  10 year

We should just call Sarah and ask her which barrels are the best....

Ha Ha, I bet Sarah has kicked more than her fair share of bourbon nerds to the curb.  Good luck with that angle.

My OCD is so freaking bad....

I only buy "Sarah" bottles, and then I inspect all bottles of that particular barrel # that I want to buy, looking for:

A.  The bottles with the highest fill line

B.  The bottles that have the absolute best handwriting on the labels and no damage on the labels.  We have some clerks around here that get crazy with the box cutters...

This is ridiculous in an awesome way, so totally going to start doing this.

I'm OCD too. I don't buy a SA bottle unless it's unopened, and the liquid is brown ;)

Well almost ordered online but, shipping costs are a bit high. I'm going to check out the local store that had these for $56 each, assuming there 10 year old and over 100 proof I'll be bringing a bottle home.

I actually picked this one up because it was such low proof. I was curious what a 50% barrel proof whiskey tasted like

The 45.9% bottle I have is a little tight, a couple drops of water helps but I think time and air might help more. Regardless it is a solid bottle and really kind of interesting, it is a different pour for sure.

Is that 45.9%bottle an 11 year?

It would be funny I'd we all had the same bottles

My experience has been that the sweet spot for buying online is 3 bottles and up, I even sometimes order things available in my area if they are priced lower than I can purchase locally to even out the shipping fees.

Asking anyone here permission to buy bourbon is like asking George Carlin for permission to use the F-word.

Opinion not permission.

For instance blindly going in always go for the higher proof or oldest, or lowest no. barrel???

You guys seem like true bourbon nerd yodas and I'd like to take into account your opinion.

You haven't been a member here long enough otherwise you'd know that the answer is "all of them".

Then determine which one you like the best and go back for more!
