Bbstout
Sorry if this isn't the right place to bring this up but I was wondering if there was any possibility of creating a trading thread. I am on a beer forum that has an active beer trading thread. I have never been involved as the cost of shipping really didn't appeal to me. I was thinking that Bourbon would lend itself as a viable option to trade, as sample size bottles could be shipped in number for low cost. I recently started putting some of my more memorable bottles in 1 & 2 oz boston round glass bottles. We all know that there is a great disparity of availability of different brands by state. It would be nice if members could reach out to one another to find samples of bourbons they would like to try. Maybe there could be a want/got tag so members could reach out to one another via PM as there is much less a commitment of a sample compared to a whole bottle. Post that you want something, and then y'all can deal with it privately. If my wishes are disregarded with respect to this matter, I won't spend much time weighing the situation. Bbstout
Unfortunate but I understand how it could get out of hand. There are always PM's ????

That's a good way of putting it...sharing. As this is a community of enthusiasts, I've always felt that the distribution of bourbon has been skewed, especially those that live in the motherland of Kentucky. Those that aren't interested in profit but the love of a common interest.

There used to be an entire thread sort of related to that in the Collectibles forum. I dunno if it just got buried due to inactivity or got deleted because of abuse. Feel free to check with the mods for permission to start a new one. Either way, shipping and private resale of bourbon is illegal in most of the U.S. except under specific circumstances. Not to speak for the boss, but it is my understanding that we don't discuss such things here because we don't want SB.com getting shut down. You can be as well-intentioned as you like and still destroy a priceless repository of bourbon knowledge for future people dumb enough to listen to us. HoustonNit
I thought read something if it's for "collectible" reasons not trading it's acceptable.
fishnbowljoe
We don't allow the buying, selling or trading of spirits here because it's illegal. This policy is to avoid any issues that might complicate things, and possibly be detrimental to the site. Even the talk of such is frowned upon, and posts get deleted. No matter how politely someone asks about buying, trading or selling something, or how politically correct their wording is, it's still tantamount to advertising items for sale or trade. I will look into the "Help A Member Find A Bottle" thread. It is locked for now. Joe

You might be surprised to learn that there's a lot I can get out here in WA state regularly that those in KY can't find. Too many knowledgeable enthusiasts in KY and not enough to go around. Great sentiment. With the ease of shipping nationally and internationally, meeting like-minded folks online, and doing all sorts of other amazing stuff, it is sometimes hard to remember that technologically advanced America still functions with fairly obscure and draconian liquor laws. I think Pennsylvania might have done away with jailing people for 90 days for transporting liquor across state lines (they still regularly bust Mennonite and Amish folk for transporting raw dairy across state lines, I think), but I'm pretty sure such laws are still on the books in other places. Last I checked Ohio and Tennessee still have laws akin to that. It is kind of a drag, but it is also a blessing. If it were easy to ship alcohol in and to the U.S., it would also likely be easy to ship to other countries. In other words, most of us would be competing with international buyers for a variety of desirable whiskies. Those of us who are on MM&F on Facebook are regularly witness to the foolishness of the European scotch market. I'd hate to see something similar happen here. fishnbowljoe
Okay folks, the "Help A Member Find A Bottle" thread has been reopened. It was because of an error on my part that it was locked down, and for that I sincerely apologize. Cheers! Joe
