I'm trying to find a solid daily drinker ~$30 and under. I intend to stock most of these regardless of my results from blind side by sides etc, especially WA107 and at least one other.

These are what I have in contention all somewhat available in my area. I've done blind tastes with these before where they've done well and I just seem to like these.

Elijah Craig 12

Wild Turkey 101

Russell Reserve 10

Eagle Rare 10

Old Weller Antique 107

Knob Creek 100

Henry McKenna BiB 10yr

Colonel Taylor Small Batch

Did a small blind taste today with the following. I always use something to start off with that has a unique nose/finish as it seems whatever I start with has an unfair advantage.

Thought EC12 would of won, it was very close between the two but I preferred RR10. I was able to identify each and slightly surprised I preferred the RR10.

Those are all solid picks.  Just rotate through for variety because what may be your favorite today might not be in six months

Yeah, I was super motivated to identify my "daily drinker", but I mostly grab what I'm in the mood for.

HH and OGD are two that taste pretty consistent for me though.

^I like OGD BiB it's a keeper for me but mostly as my go to mixer and utility bourbon. For some reason I get this feeling it's kinda flat and kinda boring compared to my other picks. I'd like to try HH6 BiB but no dice in Texas.

Your daily will definitely change periodically.  Some days, stuff you know you like just doesn't taste right/good.

This is true. I guess my intention is to cut my list in half of dailies to stock. That and to confirm through blind side by sides that the ones I perceive to prefer are in fact the ones I like most.

HoustonNit, I'm not sure why anyone would want to 'limit' oneself to a daily drinker (or even a half-dozen. . . or a dozen, even), since I personally revel in the slight surprises (or occasional confirmations) revealed when re-visiting a Bourbon brand after not tasting it for several weex... or longer.     It fascinates me no end.

....But, to each; his or her own path to Bourbon Zen, I say!    Have FUN!     If you're doing that; you're doing it right.

Funny I have sort of been on this mission as well. Only to realize I'll likely need a half dozen. Over the last week I opened cehtsmb, 4rsib, er10, hmck10, and am thinking that's a great line up of daily options. Maybe would add BT and wt101 to round it out.

I guess I should clarify I'm not trying to limit myself to one but to figure what I really like vs. what I want to really like.

A few months back I did a blind SBS and before I told myself HMBiB was my favorite and I wasn't a fan of ER10 and also didn't want to like OWA. In that SBS ER10 and OWA where at the top against 4RSB, Rowan Creek, EWBiB, OWA and HMBiB was towards the bottom. I have an unopened bottle and want to give it another try.

Basically want to find what I like in this category and you find out what you really like when you taste them blind.

Right off the bat, you'll find it really hard to make EC12 a daily pour because it no longer exists. Gone NAS.  My Big Three used to be AAA10YO--gone; VOB6YO, gone;  OWA, haven't seen in a couple years.  Lesson: it is really hard now to settle on a regular pick from your list. ER used to be single barrel. KC used to be 9YO.

The only thing that looks reliable for the long term is WT101--and a few years ago it went through an unfortunate hiatus.  At least it is readily available virtually everywhere at a reasonable price. Perhaps you can get easily get RR for less than $30 but when I see it at that price, I go Whoohoo! and buy some.

Short answer: WT101.

I really don't have just one or two bourbons I'd consider as my daily drinkers. I usually have "groups" that I like to choose from. My two main groups are wheaters/Weller's and BIB's. For a while, I'll have mostly wheaters/Weller's open, then I'll switch it up and have a number of BIB's open. As a change of pace, I'll open up some other bottles from time to time. However, with the limited availability of Weller's and my recent purchase of a case of HH6 BIB, my crystal ball tells me that HH6 BIB and BT are probably gonna be my go to pours in the not too distant future.

Cheers! Joe

For EC12 I've put 3 in the bunker and can probably get a few more. For KC also have sources for 9yrs/store picks. I'm ready for the day when EC12 dry up and will then switch to store picks online or local if I can find it. I have a RR10 source for $25 and worse case can get them from the big store down the street for $30.

3-6 EC12's does not a "go to daily" make. Stash them away and pull one out from time to time and see if the ECNAS is a contender. Same with KC9.

off that list I'd go with the WT101. its available everywhere, its good, it's consistent, and it can be had for about $15 here if you know where to look.

I concur. Turkey is finally back, and I think the 101 is one of the best things going for under $30.

I would say ER10 or RR10. I see private barrels in Louisiana, Texas, & Mississippi for around $25 each all the time! Do people think WT101 is really back on track like it used to be?

Cheers,

Jeff

Agree Turkey is on the list, I should clarify, there's a good four or five I want to keep stocked on and part of my daily rotation. I am however trying to limit certain things like keeping perhaps EC on hand over HMBiB or WT101 over BT or OFSig, OWA over Larceny etc.

I have a handful depending on my mood: ER10, Bookers, WTRB, MMCS, RR10, HMcK10, B10, OGD114, WR.  All of which are easily found, that's the key to a daily drinker.  But it's important to be nimble and be ready to change with the times.  Hell,  W12 used to be my daily.
