I never see it in OH and I will be in Louisville next weekend. Just curious if it is that hard to find.

In Kentucky?  I've never seen it on a shelf!  :o

You've got better odds playing the $2 powerball quick pic...

You will never find it on any shelf. Usually you have to ask for it and hope they have it. LB will keep it for a special release if that tells you anything. Sadly I have done better hunting and expanding the collection since I moved out of KY a few years ago. You have a better chance of finding it in WVA on the shelf IMO than you do in KY.

Heaven Hill Gift Shop had a supply on Monday, 6/5/17 but the price was steep at $75 and you're required to take a tour prior to purchase (a necessary measure "because, you know, there's something called 'flippers', according to our guide).

I've found it at the HH gift shop, no tour required when it was first release. And have bought 3 bottles off the shelf in SW Ohio.

I feel like ECBP had become a lot easier to find where I live in MN. Depending on the shipping laws where you live, you could probably order it from one of the stores here online as well.

I kept hitting all the stores in E'town and finally found 3 bottles at one of our Kroger Wine & Spirits stores for $62.  I picked up a bottle and PM'ed Kyjd75 and he picked up the last bottle.  I had seen a few other bottles in town but they wanted $100 - $110 so I passed at that price.

I'll keep that in mind. I got a bottle of EC18 last time I was there. I was planning to stop by again to see what they have.

Sadly everybody who lives in KY and everyone who visits KY looking to buy bourbon knows about ECBP.  You are better of searching elsewhere as there's too much competition in KY.

If you go to the gift shop again, personally I would go with the Evan Williams 12 year (red bottle) 10 times out of 10 over the EC18. It's also expensive ($130?) but it is cheaper than what they charge for the EC18 there, and regardless of price, I just plain like the juice better.

Of course they also had a new William Heavenhill recently, and sometimes have Select Stock.

Haha...the problem with trying to find allocated and difficult to find higher end bourbons in KY is that not only are the locals looking for it but so is every whiskey seeking visitor.  That's why it's called a Commonwealth.

Trust me KY still has a better selection than Ohio. I can still drive across the river from Cincinnati and still find things I can't find in OH. However I do understand people go there looking for certain items. I didn't realize ECBP was considered that rare. I just thought it was hard to get in OH because our liquor laws are terrible.

No doubt about that my friend.  A couple of my favorite stores are just across the river from Cincinnati.

Oh it's rare, I have only seen one in my area in the last two years. I have a better chance with online sites but it is usually very high.

The regional differences amuse me. I leave ECBP on shelves regularly

I have never seen it on the shelf in Indy.  However, I have seen it on the shelf multiple times in Fort Wayne.  I am not sure why or how this happens but I don't ask questions.  When I see it on the shelf, I buy it.  When I saw on my last visit to Fort Wayne, I mentioned that we rarely see it in Indy and the lady at the liquor store was in disbelief since they always just put it on the shelf.  She assumed that Indy got everything.  I told her we get most releases but there is a lot of competition.  I visited this particular store because recalled another SB.com member saying he found it on the shelf at the same store.  This is why these forums are so great.  You meet a lot of great people and get good intel on finding bottles of interest.

You just broke the hearts of many SB.com members.

I remember FourEyedFox searching high and low and then when he finally found it he was disappointed.

Little do you know but 2 dozen readers of this forum just jumped in their cars for a quick road trip to Minnesota.

It doesn't disappoint me. It is very good whiskey. I just have limits to my bunker. If I get to something like 6-8 or more bottles of something that is still being released, I just don't really need to keep buying more based on my consumption rate as well as my physical space.

Like I said the regional differences amuse me. I've travelled before and been shocked at what I find on a shelf both positively and negatively. I do go to Kentucky frequently and have never found much of anything I care about there besides gift shop stuff. In fact I often buy stuff at home and send it to my in-laws in the commonwealth

I am with you.  I only want so many bottles of whatever.  I know guys who have never seen ECBP or whatever the allocated bottle is and then they read a post in the forum about how plentiful it is somewhere else.  I believe Flahute (Steve) posts about ECBP being plentiful in his area.  I also find it amusing and interesting how different whiskeys are distributed.  I also find more of interest on the shelf in Indiana than what I typically find on the shelf in KY.  Typically, when in KY or having someone mule something back for me, I look for store selects from stores that I know make good picks.

Correct. I remember when it first showed up 3-4 years ago. I had been reading about how hard it is to find. I've never been one to clear a shelf so I'd only buy 2-3 at a time. I did drive around to many stores though. Then it kept showing up and before I knew it I had a dozen or so stashed. Availability is still good so I buy them as I drink them now. We are fortunate and I accept the trade off as making up for our obscene taxes.

My experience in KY was pretty much like others have stated. Some store managers that I talked to even said they thought they didn't get as much as other states...they probably felt that way because they thought they should get more being KY and all.

ECBP is not necessarily easy to find in my area, but it's not impossible either. You do have to shop around because when/if it does get put on the shelf it usually doesn't linger too long unless it's overpriced. If it's over $70, I let it sit on the shelf for someone who wants it worse than I do. I've managed to find 6-8 in the last year at prices of $60-$70, so I'm to the point that I'll probably start letting it sit until I need to replace a bottle that I've emptied. The bunker doesn't have unlimited space ya know...and others may want some too. [emoji6][emoji2]
