Buffalo Trace shortage/allocation

I live in Alabama and as of this past week multiple liquor stores are putting up signs with "limit 2 per customer" on most buffalo trace products, BT, Eagle rare, Blantons and possibly a few others soon. According to several managers BT products are now allocated and they are receiving small quantities at ABCs.

So out of pure curiosity, is it just Alabama that experiencing a BT shortage so far?

Thanks

Happens periodically just about everywhere nowadays. Wait a little while and those same stores will be overflowing with BT products.

In TX it varies by store. Here's an example of what you're talking about. This was taken in TX a couple of weeks ago.

In addition to OWA in the center, at the top of the pic you can see ER and Blanton's being limited to 1 per customer. From my experience, I typically only see limits on Blanton's and Weller 12.

Shortage?  We ain't got no stinkin' shortage!  Look what just arrived in Beantown yesterday:

WSR ($18.99) and W12 ($27.99) joined the Loch & K(e)y Society WA107 Store Pick ($24.99) in the bunker.  The Veuve Cliquot NV is for our 40th Wedding Anniversary and Father's Day dinner at Capital Grille Sunday nite.  Beer mug Father's Day card (cute, no?) is from #1 daughter, SIL, & third granddaughter (whose first birthday was Tuesday and will be celebrated Saturday at the beach!).   Life is, indeed, good!!!  :D

I guess that's OK, but doesn't offset the fact that you don't have to pay tax on it...:P

In Virginia you can always find some BT products on the shelf (ER, AA, AAA), and usually Blanton's and BT, but we almost never get any Weller products.

I was just in KY and IN and saw tons of BT products in both areas (Indy, Louisville, Cincinnati, Lexington), so it seems to vary a lot by market.

We have something similar here in NC. Our stores get the main BT products once every 3 months and it is gone same day in most cases. It isn't a big deal if you befriend your local ABC manager :)

Life is good for you, for sure!  A beautiful set of bottles and, it sounds like, a beautiful family, too.  Enjoy your Father's Day!

Yeah yeah.  Rub it in.  The Weller's disappear within hours of hitting the shelves.  OTOH, I can get all the VC I can drink.  I even have a VC ice bucket.

RE: BT shortage?  Stores selling basic BT at $22 a 750 have some on a rolling basis (mostly available, some occasional bare spots depending on the store).  Those selling it at $27 seem to always have a few bottles.  I haven't seen basic BT handles lately, but as long as the 750s are available, I don't care.  Plus, the 750s are easier to bunker and to pour from.  Blanton's is always around $60 per 750 nowadays but seems to be available regularly.

ER seems to be available whenever I want some, and of course the price on CEHT offerings keep them around - I just have to be in the mood to pick one up.  Currently, I have a Rye and a SmB unopened, so . . .

WOW, Harry - Blanton's ($42.99 OTD) is hitting the regularly shelves here (and leaving just as quickly)!  Guess I won't be buying too many 375s in Richmond next August . . . . . . .  :(

At my local total wine and spirits in Columbia, SC all BT stuff is allocated. Even regular BT is one per customer. We get Weller green label sometimes. Haven't seen red label in months. The store gets one case of Blantons per month and it is $59.99.

I was able to snag a bottle of George T Stagg jr this AM.

Well at the VA ABC the 375 is less than half of the 750 price although it can't compete with $42.99 and no tax ($26.99 vs. $58.99)

OK, just so you folk don't think I'm pulling your collective chains about prices and availability, here's my receipt from this morning's purchase of two (2) ETLs & a bottle of Blanton's (since I needed another for the bunker):

I can find most BT items in Dallas area. Blanton's is hit or miss. Rarely ETL.

I'm guessing Boston is the honey hole for BT allocation and pricing. I haven't seen ETL forever in my parts and if it was available, $36 would be a good price.

375s are $27 plus tax.  They are a little harder to find.  If you find a Richmond ABC you really like, PM me.  We get down there three or four times a year, but I usually do my buying in stores I like along I-95 North of Richmond.  THX.

Wow!  You should double or triple that.  The last Blanton's I've seen was $60 each and ETL was $50.

Roger, wilco.   :D

Did you like my prices from today's purchases?   Anything I can get you, just let me know and I'll bring it down in August.   ;)

That makes me feel good, that maybe this hysteria is on the way out, and back to acceptable prices.
