What would you ask you local LS to stock

In talking to the local Ls proprietor, he asked me what I would like to see.  Being new to this arena ,what came to my mind were the WT offerings.  I'm a fan of the rare breed, which he doesn't stock. The only wt product he has is the basic 81 and 101.  So he can get access, maybe.  So also asked for the masters select ones.  So if he gets those and I buy from him, maybe more becomes available.  What should I ask for?  Like our botm...Is that something a local Ls would be able to get here in Illinois?

Wish my local shop had more private barrels. They did an old forester single barrel that was fantastic and I've bought multiples of the Dickel and Four Roses barrels.

I don't know how happy he will be with the Masters Keep products. In my area they just sit on the shelf.  Nothing worse for a store owner than expensive inventory taking up shelf space.  I think for your first selections need to be items that will appeal to a variety of customers and will sell robustly. Show the owner you know how to build his sales and then he will see the benefit of helping you.

Russell's Reserve is a good our that's not too expensive and would move quickly, if you're looking for something WT. I'd like more mid-range products at my store that didn't come from the big guys. The mid-range from Willett, Johnny drum, Kentucky Vintage, Pure Kentucky, for example. OGD 114, anything Weller (don't we all), VOB BIB, (really just more BIB's beyond OGD) and more ryes. I live in a bourbon barren area, damn vodka.

No Binny's near you?

WT Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve seem like the next in the progression for WT and should have a wide enough audience that he wouldn't get stuck with something that never moves.

How's their Beam selection?  Beam Black, Knob Creek, Knob Creek Single Barrel, Booker's, OGD 114?

How's their Buffalo Trace selection?  Eagle Rare?  Weller?  Elmer T Lee?  EH Taylor Small Batch?

How's their Four Roses selection?  Yellow label, Small Batch, Single Barrel?

If they have some from a distillery, they should be able to get others from the same distillery.  If you like one from the distillery, ask for another that is similar.

To the subject: What would I ask my LS to stock?  Anything Four Roses, just because it's special order only in Utah with a one case minimum.  If it were readily available, I'd be buying some now and then.

Our local deli has a pretty good wine selection, a large traditional liqueur selection (i.e., Campari, Luxardo, some amaros, etc.,  and thankfully very few neutral spirits-plus-flavorings-of-the-day), and an OK spirits section tending toward expensive gins, less than a half-dozen excellent brandies/cognacs/armagnacs mixed together, and some bourbons.  They know I like bourbon.  The "new" spirits manager asked me for my suggestions.  Given their location and clientele (which I've watched for the forty years I've been shopping/eating there), I told him he could drop Seagram's Seven and add 4r YL, OGD 80 and BIB for the "college crowd" (and that BIB for ME, of course), and add the full BeamSuntory Small Batch line (instead of just Baker's).  He already carries EWB (which I asked for months ago and is now a staple) and some House label bourbon (80 proof HH I'd bet), large market (i.e., well-known and good but not exotic) scotch, and some mid-range rums. Currently they feature NDP Michter's which, IMHO, take up FAR too much shelf space; some of the bottles are dusty in a bad way.

Keep in mind this is a deli, not a liquor store, and most purchasers of spirits are cocktail/entertainer oriented.  Nevertheless, they have found that there are more people like me in the neighborhood than they thought.:D

I'd ask my local store to bring back Old Forester signature (Or OF 100, if you will), as they discontinued it last Fall.

Hancock's Presidential Reserve, and picks of 4R and KC120.

Up until recently I'd have said Booker's.

Never tried the Hancocks reserve but I like Mash bill 2 stuff.  I'll give it a try next time I see a bottle.

It's good.  Just recently bought a bottle and I wish my locals had it more often

Heading out tomorrow to snag some bottles. HR is on the list along with rare breed 112.8. Surprised at how much I like that stuff.
