birdie
Hi All, My wife is going to be in Vancouver on business late next week and I had two quick questions, Does the Vancouver airport duty free offer anything of interest that I could ask her to look out for. Second is there any liquor store in Vancouver that may offer a good selection, maybe some Canadian bottles not available in the US. Thanks. dcbt
I traveled back and forth to Vancouver each week for a few months in 2015. To your first question, in a word, no. The airport duty free is for the birds. Jack, Jack, and more Jack. As far as liquor stores for Canadian stuff, I remember BC Liquors having a decent presence, but I didn't spend much time looking at the Canadian stuff. Good luck. flahute
I travel to Vancouver a lot for work myself and in short, no, there's not much available there in terms of bourbon. There's an occasional surprise, but it's few and far between. There will be a lot of Canadian offerings. You can actually check online before the trip to see what's available - http://www.bcliquorstores.com It will show you what's available at a particular store. BourbonDude
I've traveled around BC, Vancouver Island, many of the smaller Gulf Islands, and Vancouver and Victoria a lot over the years. I'd have to second the previous comments here. Your best bet will be to pick one of the Canadian craft whiskeys that doesn't make it south of the border. I can't say I know much about them myself but I've heard some are worthy of note. Edited July 31, 2017 by BourbonDude
birdie
One of my friends picked up a couple of bottles of JP Wisners 52 whiskey, which is only available in BC and he said they were really good.
Kane
Hmm, I am also going to Vancouver late next week, I wonder if it's for the same event... Same question, any thoughts on Canadian Rockies 21? Edited August 1, 2017 by Kane

Wisners, or Wisers? I have Wisers Legacy and 18yr, and they are pretty good. Pat

Patrick_OKC
I have found whiskies from the great white north to be really quite good, and I have a number in the bunker. Pat
kaiserhog
My only reference point for Canadian whiskies is Canadian Club, Crown Royal and Forty Creek. Forty Creek is by far my favorite of the three. I probably need to branch out, especially for true rye whisky from Canada.

The Wisers are good, and if you can get your hands on a CR Special Reserve, it is very pleasant as well (I think it has been re-branded as CR Reserve), along with the CR Black. Caribou Crossing is good too, along with a host of others. Pat
flahute
I drove through Vancouver twice today and was not tempted to stop to try an find anything. The Canadian whiskies generally don't do it for me.
BourbonDude
Yeah, as much as I love BC, Alberta, and Canada in general, Canadian whiskey doesn't do it for me either, and I like everything from single malts to bourbon, rye, gin, rum, and Armagnac and cognac. Anybody have any experience with the Canadian craft whiskeys? I've heard some are very nice and don't usually make it across the border.
