I found a bunch of my old Malt Advocate magazines. 

 

Any guess what year this might have been? 

 

Bonus points for closest month.

I'm gonna take a wild stab at this and say 2000. Before my "bourbon" time here, but if IIRC, I seem to remember seeing the Hirsch 16 on sale once for around $80.00 bucks back around 2008 or so.

Wish I had a time machine. Ardbeg 21 year, 30 year, 1977 all for cheep cheep.

Black Bowmore 1964 at a retail of 449$   Bowmore 25 year old for 119$

Springbank 21yo for $59.99

Dallas Dhu 18yo at 119.4 proof for 75.99$  Incredible Scotch

19year old Brora for less than 70$    You could still buy Port Ellen off the shelf for 60$!!

 

Bourbon was mostly not as well advertised in the magazine. Mostly (I think) because it was easy to walk down to the local and buy. Either that, or it wasn't as cool to drink it at the time. Didn't stop Me tho

 

In my neighborhood Ancient age 10 year was about as good as we had. I drank Old Overholt rye mostly.

But the single malt Scotch selection was pretty incredible back then

Now that I have the month and year I can go get my flux capacitor.

You know you have a whiskey problem when you think about going back in time not to invest in Facebook or bet a ton at the book on the Giants in the 08 Super Bowl but to instead stock up on good bourbon.

Why not do both? That way, you can afford that same bottle now as well as then.
