One bourbon distillery only please!

In that case, as much as I like Four Roses I would likely go with a distillery that makes a rye whiskey, wheated as well as rye bourbon as well as plenty of interesting one offs and older aged bottles, which is the case for several of the other major distillers. I think it would come down to HH and BT and I think today it would be HH.

 

Tomorrow? Well, who can say...

I feel the same way.  If the title were "pick your favorite bourbon distillery" it would be Four Roses.  But I like variety.  And if I could count on access to anything from said distillery, BT would be a lot harder to ignore.  But since I can't get wheaters or LEs or much Rye from them anymore, and I like HHs standard bourbons (and they make rye and wheat whiskey that I love), HH seems like a great choice.  Today.  Because I am biased by what is on shelves around me.

I'd have to pick Heaven Hill, wide range of ages, mash bills, and strengths.  I love Wild Turkey, but I think overall, my collection and open bottles would point to Heaven Hill.  Great thread!

 

Like others have said if there was open, ready access to ALL of Buffalo Trace's portfolio, I'd probably choose that, since I love Pappy 15 and 20, WLW, Stagg, but haven't seen them in the wild for EVER.

This is pretty much the same logic sequence I went through to arrive at HH.

I will say I am taking quality to price into account when I pick Heaven Hill for sure, as I'm assuming I still have to pay. I like some BT products but they are largely the stuff in the upper echelon of pricing with a couple exceptions. I can't think of a sub $20 BT product I would buy and I can think of plenty of HH products I like quite a bit. At $20-$30 I like ER and WA107 but sub $30 there are literally 10+ HH products I like.

This thread is getting me all worked up thinking about all those new warehouses out there. I love an underdog, and I really dig reading about overworked distilleries cranking out a better future, even if the wait is still a few years off.

This one's a tough call but if I have to nail it down to one, it would probably be HH. As much as I enjoy the others, HH tends to be my baseline. My open bottles are kept in 3 display cases and one is almost entirely HH bottles. They've managed to cultivate an excellent portfolio that checks all of the boxes for me: 1. Great affordable options, 2. Rye & wheat recipe bourbons, 3. Rye whiskey, 4 Wheat whiskey, 5. Great limited releases that justify their cost, 6. Availability. Aside from the products, the people at the distillery have been a pleasure to work with and are very responsive to inquiries. Having said all that, I'm most happy that this is only hypothetical!
