Anybody know anything about this OGD 114 gift set in a wood box.  Found in a friend's grandfather's house - they think it's from the 80s.

Fill level looks good and the tax stamp is intact!  Anything special or should I use in my next batch of Grandpa Weller's 4 Grain???   :D

Safe to say it's ND product with the tax stamp.  Coincidentally, somebody posted on Reddit within the last month about finding one of these sets at an estate sale.  Same rocks glasses and everything, but in a tin instead of a box.  Enjoy that dusty treasure!

This is from before Beam owned the brand.  It could be very different in a good way.  Open on a special occasion and ration it.

would love to have a taste of that.  Interesting that the 114 is listed as barrel proof.  A SBS with my current OGD 114 would sure be fun.

Definitely agree with TBT that it is special and best enjoyed on its own. I found a few 200ml bottles and one 375ml bottle of this a few years ago. I drank the 375ml bottle and it was fantastic - easy to drink for the proof and had tons of caramel and butterscotch flavors.

Regarding age, the one you have was probably bottled between 1980 and 1985. The seemingly legit tax stamp indicates an upper limit of 1985 because tax stamps were not used after that, and I don't think OGD 114 debuted until the early 1980s (I think my bottles are from 1981).

It's nice that the fill level is good. The big corks they used didn't always provide a great seal (similar to the older EC12 bottle).

That basically was barrel proof back back then.

This is one of the best bourbons I have ever had. Amazing nose and rich palate. I suspect this was a result of OGD actively choosing their best bottles for the early lots of 114 - see the advertising as they proudly marketed it as the most expensive bourbon in the world. With that type of marketing 35+ years ago better have been good. IMG_7851.JPG.4357d71b953645ec4b1480cebfbf9ff6.JPG

I need to hang out with you guys, I haven't had any ND bourbon since before I could appreciate it.  In the early 2000's a friends grandfather passed and I was given all of the whiskey he had left behind and he had not had a drink in 20 years. There was a handle of age stated WT 101 an OGD bonded and some Dewars. At the time I drank WT so I most of that was enjoyed straight or with some ice, the OGD was most certainly consumed with Coke and the Dewars probably with club by others.

I know times have changed in the world of bourbon but Wow!  How did OG114 go for the most expensive bourbon in the world to bottom shelf nearly discontinued bourbon?

I would just hope it hasn't been lying flat on the cork like that for 30 years!

Nah - it was on a bookshelf, upright behind some other bottles - luckily!

That's what I was told by the kid who was cleaning out his grandfather's house.  Besides, if it were lying down for so long with a bad cork, wouldn't the fill be lower???????  That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!   Besides, I'm only a "Novice" - what would I know . . . . . .
