drunkenjayhawk
Just went to a local store and Larceny is now available in Kansas as of yesterday. At less than 25 a bottle. Not bad, hope it lives up to some of the hype it has. I do like wheated bourbons however and am confident I will like it. This store is in Lawrence Ks.. Jackinbox
It's one of my regular pours. I think it's a great value for an 8 year/12 year wheated bourbon at $25. I much prefer it to the Old Fitz BIB (which tastes much younger to me). Plus, it's never hard to find.
EarthQuake
We have it in Iowa City IA now too. I picked up a bottle. It's sweet and somewhat simple, not a bad buy for $25 but not something I'll really reach for often.
miller542
Just showed up in Utah too. I'm not a huge fan of wheaters but will be picking up some just to try it and check off that box since I've never seen or tried Old Fitz. CardsandBourbon
I have it and the Old Fitz BIB and I enjoy the Larceny much more. I like wheated bourbons and this to me has much more flavor than the Old Fitz. I'll always keep a bottle around.
Clueby
I'm in the opposite category. I love Old Fits BIB but don't care for Larceny at all. I get bubblegum with OF and nail polish remover with Larceny. I've tried two bottles of Larceny thinking it was just a bad bottle. Nope..they both tasted like acetone. I tried it again in a bar later. Nope..still don't like it.
Postal Grunt
DJHWK, if you like Larceny, take your Costco card to one of the MO side stores in KC where you can pick up the 1.75L bottles for about $35 before tax. Makers Mark is also available in the party size for about $$45. Both are usually in stock in quantity. Check out Cork and Barrell down there in Larrytown, they often have OWA in 1L bottles for about $30. I haven't ever been to a Costco, this might give me a reason to go.

garbanzobean
I think it is safe to say that we can count on Larceny being the correct age based on the label. So a minimum of four years old. Personally I don't care, as I really enjoy Larceny. The only other readily available wheaters in the price range of this one are Maker's Mark products, which I don't care for. Bernheim (not really bourbon but a kissing cousin of Larceny) has a 7 year age statement, so there's always that. Personally I'll take larceny as is. ETA: Something I'm hoping for is the eventual availability of single barrels of Larceny for store picks. And maybe a higher proof offering. But since they just rolled out national distribution of this, I'll hold off complaining too much. Edited August 27, 2017 by garbanzobean
EarthQuake
Isn't Rebel Yell 10 year basically a single barrel, higher proof, age stated Larceny? Same mash bill and HH juice. I haven't tried RY10 so I don't know how similar the flavor profile is though. Edited August 27, 2017 by EarthQuake

However to my palate, even though I like Larceny, I would take the RY 10 yr. SiB. That extra time in the barrel develops the flavor more and departs more oakiness to the finish, which I really enjoy. Unfortunately finding RY 10 is a lot more difficult than finding Larceny around here.

I e-mailed HH some time ago suggesting a barrel proof version of Larceny. Just don't add water or chill filter some of what they already are batching together. Single barrel store select sounds more difficult given the Larceny brand is based on mingling some older with younger whiskey. An alternative, age stated bonded Old Fitz could be very interesting. smokinjoe
Last that I heard, HH is targeting a 6 year old profile through a mingling of barrels in age from 4 to 20 years.

I'd like to recommend they just make Larceny 6yrs old (even if they don't call it so) so they can use those older barrels for other things. Having tasted right out of one of their 16yr old wheated barrels, it makes me cringe to think that whiskey of that quality might be mingled with 4yr old whiskey. They don't have enough of it for a Parker's Heritage type of release but they surely put it into the Select Stock program.
Vosgar
Just a hunch Steve, but I'm thinking any older barrels used in Larceny are probably not ones that would knock your socks off. I can't imagine they'd use honey barrels in a relatively inexpensive whiskey, there's too much money to be made on the high end market
mbroo5880i
I like it and, given the limited availability of Weller in Indy, I am happy to have it as a reasonably priced alternative. I can usually find it regularly priced for less than $25 and for less than $19 when Kroger has a 30% off sale.

Either way, it definitely tastes older than OF BIB.

There's a disconnect somewhere. That would go counter to HH published info on age target, unless their 8 and 12 year bourbons have a 6 year old profile! I've heard stranger, though... Heaven Hill doesn't have a single high-end product using their wheated mashbill (unless you count the VOSF 12 year that is only available in Kentucky). Luxco has the 10 year Rebel Yell from their stocks, but Heaven Hill doesn't seem to care too much about doing anything special with those "honey barrels". OK, I just looked on the Larceny website and you are correct! I'll have to go back and listen to Bernie's comments again (if I can find the interview) but yeah, I think he's wrong on this.
