Heaven Hill doesn't have a single high-end product using their wheated mashbill (unless you count the VOSF 12 year that is only available in Kentucky). Luxco has the 10 year Rebel Yell from their stocks, but Heaven Hill doesn't seem to care too much about doing anything special with those "honey barrels". It's been a few years since the PHC 10yr (2010?, which I absolutely love). Maybe in the near future? Edited August 27, 2017 by Vosgar

This is what I hope is in store for their older wheateds. The 16yr old I referenced does not exist in enough quantity to become a PH release. Of course it could end up blended into something special (say a wheated cask strength release with 10, 12, and 16 yr old barrels to get the proper volume (those other numbers picked at random)). I can't imagine they'd use honey barrels in a relatively inexpensive whiskey, there's too much money to be made on the high end market This crossed my mind several days ago, although I can't remember why - I just know it was after several days of casual searching for info about Larceny and Old Fitz on the internet. Or, maybe I'm remembering something I read on page 186 of Clay Risen's "American Whiskey, Bourbon & Rye" (2013). The (allegedly) six year minimum barrels probably do have some older barrel distillate mixed in to hit the "Larceny" profile by adding some needed oak and vanilla. I do like Larceny, and whoever is doing the blending ought to take a bow or two. But like Vosgar, I doubt those older barrels are super - more likely I'd guess they are used for small doses of flavoring. I hope I'm right. It'd mean they are saving those honey barrels for something else. I just wish I knew what that something else is.

I'll have to go back and listen to Bernie's comments again (if I can find the interview) but yeah, I think he's wrong on this. I'm wondering if he was referring to Elijah Craig NAS. Jackinbox
OK, I finally found the old podcast in which Bernie Lubbers addresses the age of Larceny. My memory apparently isn't quite what it used to be as I had remembered incorrectly. I've transcribed his exact words below. "This brand has really been phenomenal for us. There's good and bad about it as we are only in 12 markets around the country with this. We do not have enough liquid for the entire country, because there is 6 and 12 year old bourbon in here. Not 6 to 12. It is 6 and 12. We haven't forecast our barrels and all that so we have 6 year old coming in and a lot of 12 year old. So that's why it has this deep color."
