EarthQuake
I'm leaving for France tomorrow and will be in Paris for about 5 days. I'm curious to know what to expect in terms of bourbon and specifically if I can expect to find anything that I wouldn't be able to get in the US. I'm planing on going to Maison Du Whisky as I hear they have a good selection, and it looks like they probably have Blanton's SFTB which I'm curious to try. But if anyone knows of anything else that might be interesting and where I should look, that would certainly be appreciated.
silverc
The only good place I know of is Maison Du Whisky, but I haven't had a chance to really hunt around the few times I've been in France. If you have a chance to try some Armagnac while you are there, and if you enjoy it, then it may be a good opportunity to get some and bring it back, particularly if it is from a place that isn't exported to the US. Also don't expect to find anything even remotely good at either Orly or CDG duty free. The selection is really quite pathetic. Masset1982
La maison du Whisky is your best chance to find some Blanton's STFB or the gold, they have a great selection but be prepared to pay the price, it's not cheap compared to the U.S. They have two shops in Paris, the one at Odéon and another one. Have a trip to Paris. Will.
Kane
I can't think of anything other than the various Blantons and age-stated WTs that could be of interest. As others mentioned, American whiskey is going to be expensive, too. Also, as recent as 2 years ago you could still walk into a random store to find a LE from a few years back forgotten on a shelf. Say, this happened to me many times in Nice & Toulouse, but Paris is obviously a much higher-traffic area, and I'd expect our European bourbon buddies to have caught up with the craze by now anyway. EarthQuake
Thanks guys! I am a fan of Armagnac and if I can find some time I may do some shopping for that too - the only problem is I know much less about it than whiskey. Same goes for Scotch for that matter. I know a bit more about Japanese whiskeys though and will be looking to see if there is anything interesting here. I will be in Lyon, Marseille, and Nice too so I would keep an eye out when I'm out and about.
Ssirota8
Sherry Butt and Prescription Cocktail were two bars I visited while in Paris. While the selection was not outstanding I was impressed for being abroad.
