Barrel_Proof
I talked to Craig last night. I told him about all the folks (from this forum) who were going to attend the Sampler. I also "hinted" that I would "steal" him away for a bit to introduce him to everyone and party with us for awhile ...He said, I can do that, No problem Should we let him drink from an Erlenmeyer, just like his dad did at Festival time? boone
Should we let him drink from an Erlenmeyer, just like his dad did at Festival time? Make sure ya bring a extra set Hey, bring "several" (21 might be a good number) That would be a great shot. All of us, with Craig, drinking from the famous, "Erlenmeyer, Straightbourbon.com" glasses Betttye Jo
doubleblank
Val is wondering what she's going to wear.....My delema is what to bring to drink at the Gazebo? I don't have too many hard-to-find bottles. Old and new Black Maple Hills and late '90's WT 12yo. Been looking for a reason to open these...this sounds like it, only which one?Randy B. cowdery
I'm told apparel at the sampler is "business casual." In Kentucky, "business casual" pretty much means polo shirts and kahkis, for men and women. If it's a cool evening you might see some navy or camel blazers. jeff
Leslie, me and my brother-in-law Brian will be arriving sometime abound 5 or so. Since Brian is from out of town, we plan on hitting Woodford Reserve and Buffalo Trace earlier in the day and then heading to B-Town for the Sampler. We'll be staying at the General Nelson for 1 night and returning to Lexington sometime the next day. If you'll be in attendance, please say so and when and where you'll be. Should be a great time
doubleblank
Jeff......we're in for the Sampler and also staying at the GN both Friday and Sat. Touring before the Sampler is also our plan. Looking forward to meeting everyone.Randy B.
Gillman
Confirming my attendance, staying both nights at GN. Looking forward to meeting Jeff, Bobby, Bettye Jo, Randy, Cliff, Chuck, Gary S., Marvin, and everyone. Should be a good one. My final choice for the post-Sampler: Lagavulin 16 year old Distillers Edition (special version finished in Pedro Ximinex sherry casks). We have spoken a lot about Scotch here and since no Canadian whisky can compare to the best scotch, I thought many in attendance would like to try this. It is the most assertive (pretty much) of the single malts and makes an interesting comparison to Kentucky's best.Wishing all a safe trip in.Gary Gillman, Toronto. tommy
On behalf of those who can't make it to the Sampler, I have two requests: 1. Please post some pictures on SB.com, and 2. Get the scoop on the WT Tribute bottling. Thanks in advance--it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it!
bobbyc
it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it! Tell me about it! Last year, Mr Ed , Marvin and myself stayed the course! No thanks necessary, as you say, tough job!
pepcycle
Patty and I will be there. Arriving sometime in the early afternoon. Look for me around the pool, near the hot tub end. Last year, we met for a nip at The Old Talbot Tavern. It would seem that the Gazebo would be the place to gather this year. Is anyone volunteering to be a designated driver that night? Patty took the wheel for the ride back to Lexington last year. (Thank Goodness) The ride from the Museum to the GN's a lot shorter, but I'm pretty sure I shouldn't operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery. TNbourbon
Alas, having already made a KY trip in April -- and much enjoying the SB.com get-together at Ed and Patty's before the Maker's Mark Mile, as well as a Bettye Jo-tour of HH -- I'm afraid I'll be there in spirit (spirits?) only. The best I can do is working at my part-time liquor store job while you guys are tasting the wares. I promise a toast in absentia when I get home. Enjoy! gr8erdane
I'll be at the GN saturday night but my travel agenda is wide open. I hope to stop somewhere in Louisville to pick up some tasties on the way but would love to do a tour prior to the tasting. I'll be driving my pickup so I'll have lots of room for extra 'cargo' if anyone needs it. But back to the tour, if someone can tell me when to be there, maybe we can put a group together at the GN and leave from there. And then again, since I have to come right by Louisville, I could work my plans around a stop there in the late morning, early afternoon for a tour. Of course this old feller from Missouri would need directions on where to meet. I get lost in big cities (why I rarely go downtown in St Louis) so keep it simple with no real big words please. pepcycle
Dane, Check out this site if you're passing through Louisville. You'll be arriving smack dab in the middle of Derby Festival and all sorts of things are going on. Derby Festival I'll be running in the mini-marathon on Sat morning. Look for the guy crawling up the hill in Iriquois Park with a Straightbourbon.com shirt.
gr8erdane
Maybe you need the old carrot on the pole trick, substituting Stagg for the carrot.
Barrel_Proof
There. -- Arriving just before the event, after a few whirlwind stops through the usual bottle shop haunts. -- Staying at sb.com central, the Gen. Nelson, of course. -- Still contemplating which bottling to bring as my post-Sampler bourbon to share at the gazebo (that's sb.com protocol, for you new folks). -- Looking forward to seeing everyone and sampling some fine bourbons (and a wee dram of that very special Lagavulin that Gary's bringing, too)! pepcycle
That's exactly how I'm envisioning the Bourbon Sampler. If I can get to the end of the race, its only a short drive to Bourbonia!!! Hey, with the weather forecast, I may bring my outdoor fireplace. How would s'mores go with bourbon?
pepcycle
Cliff, I'll try and bring some dry ice from the lab. We can add another dimension to the mad scientist bourbonian character that drinks from a flask. (Do you think we need lab coats?)
doubleblank
I've narrowed it down to the JVW bottling of BMH 14yo from a few years back or the WT 12yo with the ugly gold label. Leaning towards the BMH simply because I haven't tasted that one yet. Can't go wrong with either one!See everyone there!Randy Blank
angelshare
Post pictures? We'll second that! We'll be away for the weekend, but unfortunately nowhere close to the sampling. We'll be travelling with old reliable EC 12, and we'll have a toast to Bourbonians everywhere at some point during the weekend (and a second to those absent from the sampling like us!)Maybe one day... gr8erdane
OK, I finally figured what will be my 'contribution' for the pavilion after-sampler. Found another bottle of Boswell's (well two really but one stays at home). It may not be made in Missouri, but it is made for Independent Stave Company in Labadie, MO and that's close enough. Not having tried it until a short minute ago, I must say that the austere labled little decanter was quite a pleasant surprise. I'm glad I bought one for my stash now.
