Weller 107 is my absolute favorite, but that factors in a mid $20's price.  I agree with previous posters that once price creeps above $30 a lot of the value is lost.

Part of the appeal is the price. I love old forester 1920, but I'm not spending $100 for it either.

What will you hunt? What's in the $20-30 range that's better, in your opinion? I'm interested and always up for new whiskey!

Cheers!

I rarely "hunt" for anything if hunting means going far our of the way to find something specific. But Mrs. F and I travel about 6 months of the year. (It's good to be a geezer.) When we pass through KY, we always stock up on bourbon that we just can't get in OH. HH6YO BIB comes to mind because it is another exceptional value. So is OGD114. In OH, we just make do with OGD BIB. I won't go into the list of top shelfers we buy when we see them, mostly barrel proofers.

As for "better," that's a matter of individual palates--and what day of the week it happens to be.  In the $20 range, I am more than happy to have some WT101, BT, EC, ER, EW 1783, or KC. And speaking of KC, it is a good example of significant price variability. I rarely buy KC in OH anymore, even though it is available, because I know I can get it for half the price out of state. As a cheap old geezer, I don't love it twice as much in OH as I do in AZ or CO.

Of course a matter of taste/palate, but I would say OWA is just good - not great, not worth paying much over $30 for, and there are a number of bottles I prefer in the $30-50 range as well. If it can be found for the low twenties there isn't much I would pick over it. However, I've generally had to pay about $45-50 (and those are "low" prices going by a lot of online stores) plus shipping for it on the internet because I've never seen it locally, but I doubt I will buy another bottle at that price. As others have stated it's not really worth hunting for in my opinion.

The last bottle of OWA I purchased was $52 from Blackwell's, it was a store pick and a bit better than the other bottle of OWA I have. From my notes I rated the standard at 8/10 and the store pick at 8.25/10. For context I purchased a store pick Eagle Rare from Blackwell's in the same order for $28, which I rated as 9.25/10.

OWA was once a great value bourbon, and if you can find it at retail it probably still is, but the hype and pricing is getting to rather silly levels.

I know where 10+bottles of 107 are for 29.99.     10+ Weller reserve for 24.99.     Let me know if anyone wants some, I can work out shipping and such.
