tsangster
Ran across this while 'working' this morning and don't recall seeing on the forum. Suppose it could go in the rye forum but figured some of the bourbon folk might miss out: "Bourbon may be America’s spirit, but rye production was established in the Northeast many years prior. It was the original grain of the region because it was hardy and grew better than corn or barley." https://vinepair.com/articles/empire-rye-new-york-whiskey/ Please delete if already posted. JoeTerp
Thanks for posting. A couple things that I found interesting: 1. The barrel entry proof is 115 and lower than the 125 that is in the federal regulations (for both rye and bourbon) 2. The two years minimum aging requirement. They mentioned Tuthilltown Spirits and I can't imagine their rye is aged nearly that long (since I believe Baby Bourbon is only aged around 4 months). It would seem odd that one of the more well known distilleries would have their product excluded from this designation.
