Pogue

Have never seen until today. I passed but now am wondering if I missed something special. From what I can tell it is not distilled by Pogue but sourced. Have many tried this one?

While I can only speculate as to what you're referring to, they've been distilling for a while now (rye and bourbon).  They have released a couple of rye's of their own make (one under the 5 Fathers label at both 2 and 3 years of age).  To date, the only bourbon that I'm aware of them selling has been sourced (while they wait on their mash to come of age).  Having said that, their initial reintroduction of the distillery offering 'Old Pogue bourbon' was very well received, and has subsequently gone AWOL for the past couple of years due to the high demand (and pretty bottle).

What did you see today? 

I saw the Pogue Masters Select. They wanted $125 and only had 3 bottles. I can't recall if it had an age statement..will try to find a pic.

 The link is to their distillery page and changes from the Pogue Bourbon (which I saw) to a less expensive Maysville bottle.

^^^^I haven't seen one in two or three years, but it used to have a 9 year age statement on it.  Pretty good bourbon, but I can't recall where it was sourced from at the time (actually, I'm not sure if I ever knew).

 

I never bought one, but it was basically everywhere you looked (I mean locally) for a while after it's release.  I'd guess partially due to the local interest in the re-birth of the distillery, as it was very popular at bars, parties, etc.  So much so..well, you already know.

Thanks for the reply.. I'll probably just let it pass by d/t the price tag...got to learn to listen to my inner Black Tot.

It was $60 the last time I saw it.

 

I don't have a huge sample size, but one bottle I tried was really nice, and another had a note like medicinal ointment it it. I'd have been pissed if I paid $60+ for it.

 

Good move on the inner Black Tot. Lately I've been meditating and levitating off the ground, channelling my own inner Black Tot and telling a lot of premium rum releases where they can stick their 100 euro+ price tags.

I could be wrong, but wasn't Old Pogue a KBD (sourced) brand?

When I read it was a "staff favorite" on one store's website; I got mighty suspicious and passed.
