May be a dumb question..stopped by a local store this afternoon and they had a barrel of ER10 and the bottles had the 10 year age statement on the back like usual. The employee who is always very knowledgeable and helpful was telling me about the barrel and said it was 11 years and xx months old bourbon. Would there be something that would indicate the older age? I didn't see it on the tag nor anywhere else. Seems like they would've had custom printing for this older batch?

4R is the only SB that I can think of that actually puts the age or provides a separate label with age. Most private selections will not have a separate age statement for NAS single barrels or age stated bourbons. The store making the selection is many times provided the barrel age information when they are making their private selection. For a bourbon such as ER10, the barrel has to be at least 10 years old, but can be older. If it is older, the store usually like to tell that info to their customers even though the label age isn't changed.

KC SiB also puts the age on the side label. They still use the regular 9 year front label.

My ER store pick only has a small silver sticker with no age info.

I've bought many bottles of PS KCSiB from many different stores and they have never had an age statement on the side, but the stores would always have the actual age available as a selling point. I wonder if the stores you bought from put their own label on the bottle.

I've seen it put on the back. Perhaps stores have the option and some choose to get the label and others don't.

On the KC, I've seen the age advertised, but never on a bottle.  If you contact KC through their website, they can sometimes look up the age of a barrel.  I did this once and found out the barrel was 12+ years old.

Maybe it is up to the store that chose the barrel.  Here’s one that I have. I’m sure it helps them fly off the shelf when they get this old.

Based on the info at the bottom of that label, the Distributor (Major Brands) had a hand in this special label, and not a direct Beam direct offering.  Perhaps, this is a add-on that Major offers to their clients who pick barrels.  Maybe, with Beam-Suntory's blessing.

Those Knob Creek age and rickhouse location stickers do look like store or distributor stickers. Many stores around here will have a sign near the PS stack with a similar rickhouse map and age information, but nothing on the bottle itself. I think I've seen similar signs for ER10 too.

A few pictures of my side labels.  My store makes me do the math to get the age which is a little more annoying!  I really like those back label ones with the rickhouse map and Name of the bourbon.

I agree with JCWhammie that this info is what helps them sell.  If the age was not on the bottle label I would still try one, but would be much less inclined to pick up multiple samples from different barrels.

The store pick OWA I purchased a few weeks ago carried a 7-year age statement on the circular decal-- not that it would have altered the speed in which the shelves were cleared.

To help answer the OP's question I would say that I recently purchased an ER store pick that was advertised to be over 11 years old as well and only the circular sticker with the store's name was on the bottle.  There was no additional age statement.

Thanks everyone..

sounds like a missed marketing opportunity if this is left off by the LS. Custom store labels added on seems like a good idea.
