Good evening all,

More of a "lurker" around these parts but wanted to ask a couple questions as it's been a few years since I've been back in Lexington KY:

1) Is there one location of Liquor Barn that has a more complete/full selection of bourbon than the others?  I'm not looking for anything "exotic" or rare..just selections that I may not have readily available living in a control state.

2) Beyond Liquor Barn are there are any stores in the area that are worth stopping by?  I've heard of Westport Whiskey and Wine but they are in Louisville.

Appreciate your thoughts folks.

Some locals may know better than me, but I have been to Lexington several times. I think the Liquor Barns on Man O War and the one at Beaumont Place are the two best for selection. As far as other shops, the only shop I've actually purchased anything else in was Unlimited Spirit. I think overall Louisville has a much better selection and variety of stores than Lexington. My big thing is store picks, and aside from Liquor Barn, those aren't as easy to find around Lexington as I would expect, while they are plentiful in Louisville.

Enjoy the hunt! KY is not great for finding limited edition stuff, since so many people are looking for them. But there are ton of good on-the-shelf bourbons in KY that we can't find in Virginia. I was sipping on some Early Times Bonded earlier and it's nice stuff....worth a try at $23/liter.

Liquor Barn has the best selection around.  The stores at Hamburg (off Man 'o War/I-75) and Beaumont (off Harrodsburg Rd/New Circle) are the largest, with the most variety.  Third place would go to the original LB on Richmond Road.

Although Kroger Wine and Spirits and Rite Aid/drug stores don't have quite the expansive selection, they can sometimes  provide a nice surprise at a pleasant price.

The other stores in the area (there are plenty) tend to be a bit higher on their prices, with less overall availability.

As you already know, limited releases are not as readily available here as they are elsewhere (due to crazy local demand/consumer knowledge/distribution).

Thank you!  So...if I were to shoot down 64 to Louisville...any suggestions of stores with a broad selection and/or store picks?

If you go to the Liquor Barn on Beaumont Circle there is a Kroger Wine and Spirits close by.  As suggested you can often find nice surprises at the Krogers.

Well you already know about Westport.  Other options would be Liquor Warehouse.  They have a few stores.  It's hit or miss on what they have though.  Depending on what you can find in your area there could be some things that we consider available that might be more rare to you.  Good hunting.

Kind of a side track here, what are the ‘kentucky only’ bourbons that are popular on here. A co worker is going to frankfurt for a wedding this weekend.

I know Heaven Hill bib 6 yr is one I’m going to ask her to get for me

 what about old fitz bib?

BIB's and gift shop bottles.

You can drive over to Louisville, but I'd doubt you'll find anything there (in the stores), that you won't find in Lexington.  You'd also pass Frankfort (and multiple distilleries) that'd likely offer you more opportunity without having to travel as far.
