Anybody try this Boone County Eighteen 33?

They make two different variants, the standard 10 year at 90 ish proof and a 12 year at cask strength. Which one are you asking about?

 

They are all MGP sourced juice.

I've passed on this several times, but wondered if it was any good, especially the 12 year cask strength.

I haven't had it but I would guess that if you like any other 10+ year MGP CS you are probably safe. Despite what some people believe about SAOS, Willett and some other brands picking "honey barrels" most MGP sourced well aged stuff is good, the only question really is how is it priced?

There is a store with the Boone 12 that you could hit up, check your PM. It's cheaper than the Mic Drop

So MPG ships it's bourbon in barrels and not tanker trucks.  MPG clients don't even have to barrel MPG's juice (unless they are re-barelling for a finish?)

Some are aged on location for some duration and it definitely can make a difference but so can the wood in the barrel and a million other variables. It's not like every Willett or SAOS SB tasted the same there is variance in each bottling but having had plenty of MGP over the years I have a hard time finding one NDP better at picking barrels than another. The worst MGP BP SB I had was a SAOS and so have many of the best one's been. I have a Backbone Uncut right now that's pretty outstanding as well as Turley Mill SB BP Rye that is really unique, neither get as much hype as SA or Willet but both are just as good.

Ha! What a hoot.  I am drinking Backbone Prime Blended tonight, except I poured into my stout.

The Mic Drop is really great, I’m surprised it hasn’t received more attention.

I think it's hard to find and kind of pricey so that's probably the main issues.

There were only about 3300 bottles filled according to PM Spirits. Although it is cask strength paying $85-$90 (or more?) for an 8yo MGP bourbon seems a bit steep. No indication I have seen about whether it is the high rye or low rye or some combination in between. I have liked some of the various cognac's and armagnac's (not to mention his tres vieux Pineau des Charentes!) Palazzi has released in the past but I have no idea what his experience with bourbon is. If it shows up and if I can try it first then I might give it some thought. But both are long shots as I have not seen it locally so far.

I take that back. At least one picture suggests at least some of it is the 21% rye. A second picture is less clear. Not sure what the 25% means.

See the attached photo for the mashbill. My understanding is that it’s an NY only release; everywhere I’ve seen it it’s been $100 flat, no more no less. I’ve had better bourbons at that price point and I’ve had far, far worse. It reminds me of some of the better Four Roses OESK’s I’ve had. It’s a lot of money to pay for 8 year old juice —especially with ECBP floating around, four years older and also cask strength—but if you like MGP I’d try it.

I've passed this many times now at Astor and Warehouse, hard to swallow that price especially when I can buy 8 year Backbone Uncut for $45.

I think that’s super fair, I passed on it until a friend encouraged me to get one! I only own one bottle and haven’t gotten backups even though I could easily come by it. Most people I know who have it feel like I do—very happy to have it on the shelf but not at the right intersection of price/quality to bunker backups. I haven’t had the Backbone honestly but I’m glad you mention it. Definitely going to track one down.
