Jfletchgu
Does anyone have any experience with the blood oath pact bourbons. I have been intrigued by them every time Im at my local LS, but haven't heard much talk about them. I think my local store has it listed for around $85. Is that a fair price and is this something I should give a shot. Edited December 11, 2017 by Jfletchgu
jshleffar
I've had 1 and 3 and like both plenty. Finished bourbon isnt for everyone though. The price is another matter and, of course, relative. If it's an itch you really want to scratch whats 85 bucks but generally I think theyre a little overpriced. Sour Mash Esq.
I have Pact 3 and really like it.
Kane
I'll be the voice of dissent and say that it's not a $85 whiskey. I don't mind dropping $200 on something I like, or simply find unique, but this one goes straight into the "I'd rather buy four $20 bourbons" bin. Or two $30 bottles and the extra for later.
EarthQuake
I had #2 at a bar and quite liked it. It's a solid bourbon and it's unlikely that you would strongly dislike it. The barrel finish added a nice complexity but didn't overpower (which I think is a good thing). I would rank it up there with some of the High West blends, like Bourye, which tend to be in the $70-80 range. If it's worth the price is another matter, after having a pour I wasn't compelled to grab a bottle, but it really comes down to how much you like it. $85 is a good price compared to the typical asking price that I've seen ($110-120). I would be tempted to pick one up at that price. The price curve for bourbon is interesting. $80 bottles are rarely 2x better than $40 bottles or 4x better than $20 bottles. However, I tend to have more bourbon than I can reasonably drink, so picking up 4x $20 bottles means I'll simply have 4x $20 bottles that I won't be drinking any time soon (or ever). So again it all comes down to how much you like it and what your priorities are. Edited December 11, 2017 by EarthQuake
jshleffar
That's an interesting way to look at it. I'd prefer the pact to four 20 dollar bottles, but prefer two 40 dollar bottles to it.
tanstaafl2
My problem is figuring out how blending three different whiskey's together that when bottled individually were probably sub $40 bottles equals an $85-$100 bottle. While the effort to blend it might add some extra value I don't think it is worth double or triple the price! And I don't think the box or the over the top marketing campaign adds much either... But I can certainly understand why Luxco would do it to try to grab a piece of the "luxury limited edition" market. More profit margin.
