New Year's Resolution

Since my bar and bunker are getting overwhelmed with bottles I'm going to bring my bourbon purchases way down to almost nil until it gets a little more manageable.  I will have one caveat with this in that I will continue to enter lotteries and if I win then I'll make that purchase but if my current luck holds (3 wins so far this year) I probably won't be getting many calls from the ABC next year. Who else is with me!?!

DC when I saw the topic title I came here expecting to hear you say you  were going to be hunting more bourbon, buying more bourbon, bunkering more  bourbon, drinking more bourbon . . . well, all I can say is that I am deeply disappointed with you.  I'm even contemplating initiating proceedings to have you excommunicated from SB.com.  Please, I beg of you, come to your senses and continue buying huge amounts of bourbon in the coming year.  We're all really worried about your mental health when you come on here making these insane statements about cutting down on your purchases.  Say it ain't so.

I am also on buying and drinking hiatus for the time being. Have not drank any bourbon since clearing all my empties around Thanksgiving as I work through the excessive amount of barrel aged beers I bought last year.  Expected vs actual consumption rate was waaaay off.

DC. see what you've started.  If this continues the bourbon crash we've all heard about may very well come to fruition.  I hope you can live with yourself knowing that you were the initial snowflake that started the avalanche of the bourbon crash.

Yeah I suddenly have a lot of barrel aged beer to go through. I put a few in the basement to age but that just means I'll have even more next fall.  Hasn't stopped me from having some bourbon 3 or 4 times a week.

Same here, I have way more than I need right now (except pappy of course) of which I have none. I will not purchase anymore except exceptional deals, and the rarer stuff. But what I have is all really good stuff. (all the Wellers, 2 bottles of each, 2 EC12 with age stated on front, RHF, Blantons, 2 PS ER10, BT PS, ECBP, PH8 and 11, 3 CEHT SmB , GTS) So I have enough for a while. But compared to some I have nothing really. It's been a great year for me tasting and acquiring some good bourbon.

My girlfriend recorded me saying Im going to aim to keep it to 18 bottles this coming year (that's 1.5 bottles a month for you non GeeTen level mathematicians) excepting lottery wins, so she can rub it in my face when I fail by May. I also had to promise to not buy anymore ECBP or Stagg Jr to get the allowed number to 18 since she doesn't seem to get the whole different batch thing. Pretty sure Ill be storing extra in my Grandma's basement rather than let her know she's won.

You could try to explain it to her using women instead of bourbon.  You know, describe to her how much more interesting things are when you have a variety of women to sample from, instead of the same one all the time.  I'm sure that she will understand then.

 I really don't think so Swamp. From what I can tell, jshleffar is an okay member here. It'd be a shame if he no longer posted much, or maybe disappeared altogether.

This is my approach to, and stay close to LS managers I have built a relationship with, 80% of my 'nice' bottles have come from having that relationship.

Again, I really don't think so. Variety may be the spice of life, but in one way or another, that'll tend to get you in trouble. I'm a bit of an old fart, and I've been around the block a time or two to say the least. And yes, I do speak from my past experiences.

You could explain it to her in terms she will understand using man-speak.  I need only 18 bottles of whiskey like you only need 18 pairs of shoes.

The previous girl, this would work. This one works in fashion and only has about 10 pairs of shoes total somehow. That and my son make her a keeper. So I'm sticking to the plan of hiding extra bottles at my grandma's.

you can NEVER, NEVER, NEVVVVVVVEERRRR let her know she won.  find that recording and make it disappear.  on the other hand if she finds out, you can say that the recording also recorded the crossed fingers behind your back

Manageable? I don't ever remember a time when it was manageable!

 

I am going to have to retire first just so I have time to make my bottles more manageable.
