Nada, niente, zip, zero.  Daughter and SIL wer in France and England/Ireland on separate trips and I asked for Blanton's Gold or SFTB.  All of the "friends" that I take care of when I'm on my trips - nuthin'.  Guess I'm turning into Scrooge and sharing absolutely, positively  . . . . . . .  everything, still!

I received a EHT single barrel from my wife. She also replaced my favorite whiskey glass ( she broke it) a rock glass from the corvette museum.

My best friend in the world (my wife) surprised me with this

and a gift card to Liquor Barn.  She is waaaaaay to nice to me.

Don't have a picture of this one but I gifted my new grandson a bottle of Booker's 2017-01 (since he was born in 2017) which the good Lord willing we will open and enjoy on September 8, 2038 (his 21st birthday).

I actually got a few bottles: Baker's, BH Dark Rye, Belle Meade 9yr Sherry Cask Finished and Breckenridge 105. I actually already have a bottle of the BH Dark Rye, and really like it even though it's definitely different than your typical rye, but the others are ones I've been curious about, but haven't previously purchased.

Mrssmokinjoe gave me a Writer's Tears Copper Pot gift set that came with 2 nifty glasses.  I have become a big fan of Writer's Tears, particularly the Red Head.  The Copper Pot is quite good, and the gift set glasses may be among my new favorites.

Got a bottle from my mom. She probably had the best intentions, but it's sadly in my top 5 of undrinkables. Westpoint being number 1.

It's called "Gun Fighter", and is not a straight bourbon. Label states that it has spent at least 6 months in new oak barrels, followed by a non-disclosed time in used french port barrels.

Edit: Adding water makes it taste almost exactly like a port. Which I guess is a good thing, if I am ever in the mood for port...

This was a pretty cool gift that my parents got me. I've done a blind taste test on the package and was able to pick the correct three pretty easily. Something I probably couldn't have done almost a year ago when my bourbon journey started. I've got a question for more advanced whiskey enthusiasts than myself. Why is JW Red Label so bad? Granted, that's the first scotch whisky I've ever tasted. Is all scotch like that? I must just not have a taste for it...

JW Red Label is scotch in name only and is not representative of a good single malt scotch. It is a young blend of a small proportion of single malt scotch and a large portion of grain whiskey. I love good single malt scotches and like some blended scotch, including most of the JW blends, but I don’t drink JW Red Label...it’s a really crappy scotch blend.

I will second what @lcpfratn said above.

Don't give up on Scotch all together because you didn't like the swill known as JW Red label.

Cheers!

Ok, ok - I did just get a box from Georgia with three (3) bottles of bourbon in it!  A HHBiB (which we never see up here), and two (2) DeKalb Bottle House (Jat's Store) barrel picks by tanstaafl2 (you may have seen his pictures of the barrel heads with his name on them in another thread) -  a Buffalo Trace SiB from Warehouse I, Floor 6 and an ER10 SiB Select from Warehouse L, Floor 2.  Gonna' try the 2 store picks this afternoon at daughter #1's 39th birthday party and donate the HHBiB to Pappy's Whiskey Den after next week's Whiskey Wednesday tasting at the Loch & K(e)y Society meeting.  Life continues to be grand with another gathering of the whole family today!

Nice!! Thats the very BT  I just picked up this afternoon, DBH is a great shop. On topic the GBS  ECSib came in and while I considered that a holiday “get” some friends of mine got some of that in the more traditional holiday sense.

Actually I didn’t say any of that. I was quoting and responding to another member’s post...reread my original post.

I know I didn't quote you, I quoted typf2 and mentioned you, so both of you would be aware of my response... When I said "above" in my post, I was referring to your post above mine that said:

"JW Red Label is scotch in name only and is not representative of a good single malt scotch. It is a young blend of a small proportion of single malt scotch and a large portion of grain whiskey. I was agreeing with your opinion of JW Red being a really crappy scotch blend... Reread the post

Just as JW scotch is the top selling scotch in the world (#2 isn't even close) JB is the top selling bourbon in US (world?).  But neither will win any taste contests. IMHO The Q is: how is that possible?  Both taste like crap (IMHO) but they're the top sellers?? But also in the case of both, spend a little more and you can get yourself a quality tasting drinker.

Single malt scotch is really where it's at, taste wise.  You can get some nice ones starting around $25-30. (and that's bourbon and scotch).

Ooh you think JW Green tastes like crap? I thought it was incredible. Not trying to be a smart a at all but..please recommend one I should try next that will make me feel that way about JW Green Label.  I havent had too much experience with scotch but have had a few stinkers. I dont really mind the black label either.. but would be thrilled if there are some that are the next level ( especially in the $50-$70 range.
