Basil
Epic snow day in Charleston. Finished the Weller but the other two survived. Doubt they will make it through tomorrow though....5 inches of snow is going to shut this Southern town down for another day at least.

It's a pretty solid bourbon.

For some reason most the 11 year bottles just lacked the depth of the 10 year bottles. Not this one. Bought a case! Have 2 bottles left. Worth every penny! Anyways... Several small batches were in the store when I picked up the SAOS11. A trusted source told me to pick up Batch #184 (right pic), because there had to be some old whiskey in this batch & that it was very tasty. And that was 100% the truth. It was just so good. Ended up buying 2 cases of Batch #184 & wish I could have bought more. It was $32 per bottle after the case discount. Have 3 bottles left! To answer your question. It was a very rare find & I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Cheers, Jeff That's pretty awesome. I have a bottle of the 7, but I haven't gotten around to cracking it open yet. I had assumed that SA tried to batch these for consistency. Maybe their batches are smaller given their scale of operation though.
jeffrey r
Snow day today, so I decided to open up a couple of bottles, one old, and one new, and do a little SBS. JBB 8 Year/86, and JB Distiller’s Cut/100. Both unmistakably Beam. Neither top shelf. But both good for what they are. I paid about $30 all-in for the JB Distiller’s, but frankly, most reports from around the country seem to be putting it at around $20-$25 OTD. After tasting, I’d say it is a good value at $30, and a damn good value at $20-$25. Bottom line, head to head, they are similar. Both have some nice oak (more oak than you would expect on the 5-6 year old Distiller’s—must be due to the barrel selection). Both good flavor with the usual Beam features. The Distiller’s is simply more viscous, and coats the mouth nicely. The extra proof and NCF at work I presume. Anyway, nothing earth-shattering, but in today’s market, if you can pick up the Distiller’s Cut at $30 or less (particularly $25 or less), and you like the Beam profile, I’d give this a big thumb’s up. Kyjd75
Not a bourbon, but sure to be appreciated (I think) by most folks. Another year, time for another bottle of SAOS 8 year Rye. Yep, bottled by Sarah.

El Vino
Shoveled snow for two hours to clear the driveway (going to the PBR event at MSG tomorrow!). This was my reward. I can only say that this bottle is exceptional. I don't have a lot of experience with ETL, but the purity and integration of flavors is outstanding. Vanilla, butterscotch, candied orange peel and some oaky barrel notes. I shared this with Pat (he who picked the barrel) yesterday and we both marveled at how good it is. Haven't bought an ETL in years...that may need to change. Going to nurse this bottle as it is the last that I have from this barrel. Look how dark it is!
jeffrey r
Looks great there Vino. If we only knew then what we know now, we’d have bought a ton of these when they were stacked on shelves at under $30. I still have 4 bottles of the last Liquor Outlet ETL barrel and one standard bottle, but I wish I bought a bunch more. The LO barrel is also a terrific barrel.

Yup, agreed. If I motivate, I think it would be a good SBS between KC (I only have the 9 year) and the DC. Also, I still have some of the Costco 7/103 Beam bourbon around. At the end of the day, I suspect these are all mostly within shouting distance of each other.

You could go Baker's as well but I have a pretty good feeling, as much as I tend to favor KC9, it might not be a contest at that point. Pretty sure the only Kirkland I have at this point is Tennessee so I might have to kick in the Bakers to keep it interesting.
