I've found this one to be kind of over oaked most of the time, for whatever reason tonight I thought that's what I might be in the mood for and to be honest it's kind of working.

I’m pretty sure I recall you preferring their younger OBSQ to this barrel, but I think I am the opposite. I love the age on this one, and have a few in the bunker. Both really nice barrels though. I think the OBSV PS they’ve had for a while is terrific as well.

Taste buds are finally starting to come back... Sat down at the bar with my son last night and had a nice talk. We started with a 9yr 11mo OESK and then a RR 10yo Sib PS and then a Backbone Uncut. Good times...

Your are correct, kind of a rare miss for me too, I generally like their selections better than most (Bayway, BS&B in Lakewood, etc..)

When we got home from the Louisville women's basketball dismantling of Notre Dame I thought the game was so good that it deserved a toast.  Poured a bit of MM 46 from my new crystal decanter into the new crystal shot glasses and the wife, son and I drank to the win.

First dram of the weekend, some George T Stagg from 2010, the perfect pour.

Cheers!

Will.

I have one of those squirreled away in the bunker.  As ages came down, I tried to get as much of the older expressions of recipes I like as I could find.  Does a few drops of water help smooth things out?

A little but most nights I just blend it with a younger pick to balance it out. I think for my tastes the Q yeast just doesn't work as well with more time in the barrel.

LOWC had an OBSQ at 9Y4M 62.8% that was extraordinary.  Bunkered several.  Took a bottle to a Super Bowl Party last year and it blew folks away.  I trust Mark's tastebuds and he gets some great private selections.

This is currently what I'm playing with, minus batches 4,6,8 & 9 Stagg jr (current obsession), and maybe 2 or 3 others.  Glad to have this forum available and hoping to contribute more

What's the code say on the right side of the bottom label? (I can see the proof but not the other info).

Wondering if you got a higher tier barrel, though the proof suggests you didn't.

I'll try to remember to check when I get home from work.

It just so happens, I am home sick today, and have the two OBSQ barrels we are talking about. Below are their particulars.

Thanks!

The 11yr 6mo is a tier 1 barrel so it's not a function of being a bit higher and experiencing more evaporation. It must be the particulars of the barrel itself that are causing Kevin to taste too much oak. The age is a factor but as others have said there are plenty of 4R barrels out there in this age range that are fine. It's just one of those things that happen.

Having a 2010 bottle as well, just not in the same league as yours. Mine is an OWA PS from Kenwood Liquors, which is tasting damn good with a splash of water :)

I might go with a pour of that later as well. B517. I’m starting with a little W12 while waiting for the grill to warm up in this 20 degree weather in Chicago after nearly 60 yesterday.
