Their is no doubt that is better than the regular JM. I'm not big on finished bourbons, although you can taste the sweetness from the finish on the Cigar Blend its more bourbony than the standard JM.

Thanks for the unusual SBS. I will look for the EZ as I like boozy in my cream+coffee. The BT mostly didn't work because it simply didn't have the kick, and needed to be spiked up like @DCFan said. I never had that problem with Baileys.

The Buffalo Trace mentions that refrigeration is required after opening because it contains real cream.  I assume that the EB (and I know that Bailey's) does not.  I'll take the BT thank you very much.

The JB Distiller's Cut bottle has been going fast.  It's turned out to be a new favorite.

Tonight I decided to have a pour of older label OF Signature.  Man, it's good.  I'll grab every dusty of this.

William Heaven Hill 14yr, 115 proof. This is a great whiskey. Interestingly, it doesn't taste much like the other staple HH high proof bourbons in that upper age range. Also, there isn't a hint of oak in this despite the age. That is a curious development.

This pour is so good. Balanced with a rich sweetness and proper spice. Luxurious viscosity & mild oak hold it all together.

I’ve tasted both side by side, level of enjoyment, equal. On the nose, the Decades has nothing to be ashamed of, really rich and full. On the mouthfeel, the 12yo is the clear winner, thicker than the Decades. The finish is longer with the 12yo. Conclusion, the Decades is close but the 12yo is still the winner my book. The problem is the price, I can get the 12yo between €45-€90 (it becomes pretty rare, though) and €130 for the Decades which is pretty steep, at €90, I would stock up like crazy.

So, SWMBO wanted to watch the Pat's game with me last night in the Man Cave (it wasn't a request since the BIG TV is in there).  I make a place for her on the couch and cleaned up a bit.  Down she comes with her glass of port-finished Virginia Whiskey in hand and plops down on the couch.  As she's getting comfy, she looks around and says "you have several 'horsey' bourbon bottles that need finishing" with that frown that only women can show.  Needless to say, no WA107 Freaky Fridays, no new W12s, no ETLs, and no BTACs were opened during the making of the second "Music City Miracle" last night.  But the Blanton's sure hit the spot, several times in fact.   

 

Now where are those "Bumblebees"?

I've been working on a store 'pick' of Eagle Rare single barrel the past week. It's 12 years old and interestingly is a mashbill #2 barrel.

I had high hopes for it but the extra two years of age were not kind to it. At first, the nose and palate were dominated by tannins and a hint of char.

Over multiple days and a pour each day, along with letting the whiskey sit in the glass for a while, the tannins faded from the palate and it turned into a tasty whiskey.

I could never get past the tannins on the nose however. 

Fortunately for my local, they had no problem selling out of this barrel. This is their first barrel pick with Sazerac so they were assigned a barrel - they didn't get to pick it. Over time as they build up some more credibility, they should be able to graduate to actual picking status.

The ps ER10 I have is a mess and nothing like ER to me. I wonder if it's a MB#2.

I don't think the difference between #1 and #2 would be that much of a contributor. (I could be wrong). I think it's more like to do with the barrel and how it was managed.

Short pours of ECBP (136) and KCSB after a cold walk with the pup and an ugly 1st half for the Steelers.  ECSB 136 is a special bottle.  Needs a couple of drops of water, but the depth and quality of flavor is just nuts.  KCSB no slouch either.
