I have not seen any reviews on the latest batch.  Has anyone tried batch 9 yet?  My local LS has a couple bottles of batch 8 and 9 and I wanted to see how batch 9 compared.

I picked up a bottle the other day, but it will be a little while before it is opened. Why not just go ahead and pick one up yourself and let us know what you think?  Based on the last 5 or so releases your odds are pretty good you will like it. Don’t wait for the opinions of others to guide you. Step up and take the lead.

I agree with you on taking the lead.  However, my leadership wouldn't be very helpful in this situation as I have never tried Stagg jr before and wouldn't know how it stacks up against the others.

It seems you need a suggestion then. Buy the batch 8 and see if you like it. Based on your original post it seems you have read up on he previous batches and have an idea what other people think about them. Step up and buy a bottle. Trust me on this, you will not be the first person on tnese boards that have tried something before knowing anything about it or if they would like it beforehand.

I saw a bottle of batch 7 the other day that I almost picked up. I kind of wish I had because I enjoyed the two other batches that I bought. I still might go back and grab it to be honest. I'll bet if I had dug there were some other batches back there as well. It seems to hang around here with nobody buying it.

7, 8 and 9 are very consistent, if you see one at retail (~$50) buy it on sight. I've got an open 9 right now and another 3 or 4 bunkered. I have a bottle of 7 and 8 somewhere too, I'm sort of tempted to do a side by side, but honestly these are so consistent I don't see the point.

Best thing I can say about the current batch (haven't opened mine yet) is that it was the cheapest one I bought, they have been around $50-$60 generally but I've found the most current batch at a few stores for under $50.

My man!  Give them a short rest after pouring them and let us know what you think.  Stagg Jr will be one of the few I will keep multiple bottles of as backups.

The best I have seen it around here is about $60, everything is expensive here though. Once you add all the WA sin taxes that makes it about $75 out the door =(.

I paid $55 after taxes for each.  No complaints here.  I'll let you know how they taste once I get them open.

Outside of the first couple of batches, BT has the Stagg Jr. batches pretty dialed in. I haven’t had a bad one in recent batches. I already have a few Stagg Jr. in the bunker, so I pass up everything I see these days. I must have passed up 50 bottles at around $50 over the past couple of weeks. It is abundant in NJ, with the price stable or even dropping a bit.

Haven't seen Stagg Jr in Cali or Tx for under $100. Seems like retailers are capitalizing on Christmas and New Years  and price gouging.

You made the right choice. Nobody can write a good enough review to convince you that you will like something unless you have enough experience with that person to know your palates are aligned.

In your case, the best option is to buy both and find out if you can tell a difference and to see what kind of variation or consistency is possible.

Aside from the first two batches, they’ve been very consistent. The only time I did a blind SBS was with 3 and 4. I preferred 4 but I don’t think I could pick any of them blind if not in a SBS. I’d buy with confidence. This has replaced Booker’s as my goto recommendation for available barrel proofers. It’s not as eminently available as Booker’s, and I know it’s still scarce in some parts, but BT is putting out a solid product at a fair price with this one.

When total wine in CA get theirs they end up being 38 dollars or something. Just have to be diligent about calling on their shipment dates. Also, if you've got a CA address and are interested pm me, I know a place nearby that has them sub 50 I believe.

Total Wine is the cheapest for Stagg Jr around here, but they are $58.99. The next closest I've seen is $64.89. It is strange how much local can affect price.

I've had batches 6 through 8 and have never had a bad pour of Stagg Jr. I may have possibly had batch 9 a few nights ago but never bothered to check the proof at the restaurant I was at. Admittedly, when the wife and I are out at a nice restaurant without the kids, I try not to nerd out too much on bourbon, but rather just enjoy a stress-free evening. Whichever batch it was, it's the best Stagg Jr I've had.

At $50, Stagg Jr is a hell of a buy IMHO.

I stopped at the LS today, they had three bottles.  I picked one up, and another selection.  At the counter, they told me it was $49.95, and after hesitating, I got a second bottle.  Enjoying a bit right now.  I've had GTS, but this is the first Jr for me, so I can't relate batch #9.

WHEN we can get it around here it's a one bottle limit.  I've got a bottle of Batch #8 open and a bottle of Batcch #9 unopened.  The #8 is right up there as one of my favorites.

Picked Batch 9 up in GA for $70. This is my first Stagg Jr and it's now my favorite bourbon. Huge flavor! It's hot but manageable heat, so I drink it neat. Tons of cinnamon on the nose and palate (like drinking red hots, but delicious). Dark brown sugar, vanilla, oak and caramel...I need a second bottle!!!

I picked one of these up recently and was very happy with it.  I'm a big fan of BT's mash bill #1 and this release did not disappoint at all.  I wish I had bought more.

Out of curiosity, when people talk prices here is it generally out the door or pre-tax?

I ask because in WA there is a 20.5% sales tax plus $3.77 per liter volume tax. So at $58.99 on the shelf it is $73.91 out the door. That's one reason I avoid "cheaper" bourbon's, because the volume tax somewhat minimizes the price difference out the door.

I generally go pre-tax unless I just took a trip to NH in which case I didn't pay taxes (and probably paid a lower price before the tax).
