Here's a YouTube video review of batch 9...

Did anyone else watch this review?  It's kind of hard to take anything this guy says seriously.  I'll give him a pass that it looks like he's taping it from his bedroom in his mothers attic.  He has "The Whiskey Jug" pulled up on his laptop where he is getting all of his information.  Every time he takes a taste or tries to describe anything about the bourbon he looks at the computer first.  Why watch this guy when we can just go to thewhiskeyjug.com ourselves?

AND, the Whiskey Jug review he's reading is for a different batch than the one he's tasting in the video....

From what most folks have said here, I reckon I might have to get a bottle or two of Batch #9. (sigh) ;) I've had at least one bottle of every batch except #2. I bought a bottle from batch #1 as soon as it came out. Most folks know how that was. :( I passed on Batch #2 because of how "off" Batch #1 was. Then by chance, I had the good fortune to have a couple of pours from  a bottle of Batch #3 while at a company function. :o After that, I bought as many bottles of Batch #3 as I could find, and haven't looked back since. FWIW, I still have one bottle of Batch #3 in the bunker, and currently have a bottle of Batch #7 open. Like they say, "It's all good." :D

  • 1 month later...

I picked up a bottle of #8 and 3 bottles of #9 today.  I was very happy to see 4 bottles on the shelf

Those underlines are built into the system by The Boss.    If you hover your cursor over anything that shows up that way, you'll soon know why.    It's an aid for folx who aren't sure about our commonly used acronyms.   ie. BH BT OGD , etc.

So glad I read this post ^.  For reference I've been keeping a 2nd window open to the page with the list of abbreviations.  Now I know to place the curser over the underlined abbreviation to reveal the full name.  So much easier!  :D

To me, Batch 9 (131.9) is the best so far - did a blind SBS with my GTS 2017 and Stagg Jr came out as the better tasting bourbon - so I went out and bought three more!

Because of price and limited availability I've not chased after GTS.  The info you posted about the SBS with Stagg Jr. confirms my assumption that GTS is not worth the inflated price.  That being said, I'd still like to try GTS at some point.  I just won't be purchasing a bottle.  For the price and the quality I find Stagg Jr. to be a pretty good value.  It's usually on the shelf at my local B&M for $51.99.

I had 2016 GTS in a bar and thought it was fantastic - better than batch 8 or 9 of Stagg Jr.(the only ones I've tried), but not by a lot.  But I didn't do a blind SBS so I was probably star struck by the bottle... :D I would buy GTS at up to double MSRP but not at secondary price.  BTW, my favorite Jr. batch is #8 for it's amazing vanilla, oak, caramel bomb of a nose but batch 9 is no slouch either - a little more spicy and fruity - a bit "Booker's like", if you will.  Both great stuff especially for the price.
